I'm looking for advice on issues with my 4.0 TRD Supercharger. S/C was installed at 16K by dealer and now has 92K.

The truck went in to Toyota dealer for a new S/C belt in May (first time I've ever had it replaced.) All was well for 2 mos. and 2K miles.

Then, my wife was driving home and started hearing squeaking and what sounded like bells ringing under the hood, she said. When I opened the hood, found the S/C belt shredded.

Flat bed ride to the dealer. Diagnosis: One of the tensioner bolts snapped and broke a pulley. They ended up replacing quite a few parts for the belt system (don't have the invoice in front of me) at the tune of about $1,600 parts and labor. No cost to me, dealer covered, including tow. Got all new coolant too.

It took a month to get all the parts in from Magnuson in CA. Dealer gave me a new 2017 TRD OR 4x4 DCLB and put about 2,000 miles on it - nice test drive for when I get a 2018 this fall!

Get my truck back, in less than a week and 400 miles later, I'm driving along and hear a metal clanging, like something fell off, then lost boost. Pull over, check under hood. Belt is off again. Here we go again.

Call dealer, another flat bed trip. Lots of apologies from dealer. I want my truck fixed right.

    Here is what they find:

You can see in this picture where it broke off:

They call Magnuson, order a new part 38274-04-A01. It arrives today. Part numbers match on new and broken. Dealer calls Magnuson and says these parts are different sizes (broken below compared to new):

Magnuson says "we were given old inventory with the tensioner that broke, sorry"
    Really?

I'm looking for feedback here. Based on what you just read and saw, does this new piece look correct? Did the dealer just not install it correctly before? Do they not look the same because that whole outer diameter potentially broke off? Any and all advice appreciated from the Supercharger experts please and thank you!

Looks right to me. Seems like something else is off though for you to have these problems. Potential bearing issue perhaps? Maybe its not spinning as freely as it should.

Dealer called back. They put the "old" new pulley (green in pic) on the new tensioner and it seems to be working well, multiple test drives by them. The black pulley would not fit. So, I'm picking it up tomorrow. We'll see how things go....

Can one see a difference in temperature by running a colder spark plug? For instance, I have the factory thermostat (185F) and run anywhere from 185-200 on the coolant temp. Would the colder plugs keep it closer to 185 more of the time?

Colder plugs transfer more heat from the firing tip to the cylinder head and keep the tip cooler...better for higher performance engines. I don't know if that would make any difference to the coolant temp though but it's a good idea to run cooler plugs if you're supercharged.

A big part of the pinging issue I was having with my truck pre-7th injector kit was from running stock heat range plugs (IK16 I think?), I switched to IK20 and it was a noticeable difference. The 7th injector kit came with IK22s so that's what I'm running now.

Ive seen the Ikh24's suggested here so that's what's I purchased. Just wondering if I'll see a measurable difference

I am new to the forum--please forgive mistakes. I have a 95 Tacoma with just 39K miles, standard cab, 3.4L V6 and manual transmission. I have an early, first generation TRD supercharger that I would like to have installed. Good experienced shop in town. I have been advised to go with headers at the same time. I would like to keep it all Toyota, but now discover that the TRD headers are hard to find. I prefer a new set. Are there any Toyota Parts Departments that still have the 3.4L header set? If not, what is my best option here? Thanks for your help, Don

Whoa. That's like 3 steps above original supplied plugs. It made all the difference on yours huh?

It cleaned up my AFR's a considerable amount. Made the idle smoother and just felt better overall. I can't say much about performance improvements but as a whole it cleaned up a lot of everything for me. It was worth the jump, then again I have mods.

There is no IK18 (as far as Denso plugs go) so IK16 --> IK22 is only 2 steps colder

If you really only want TRD headers, your best bet would be to keep your eyes peeled for a used set...about a year ago there were a few new sets that popped up on eBay and elsewhere when someone supposedly found a stash of them tucked away in a warehouse, but they've been discontinued for several years now.

Oh, there is a brand new set of them posted in the for sale section of this forum, but the seller is selling them with his supercharger and 7th injector kit and refuses to separate anything. If you have the cash, you could buy his setup and sell what you don't need...

Ahh I see. Is this the IKH series of plugs that we are talking about or is the IK a series of it's own?

Just the IK's, the IKH's are another Denso category of plugs...I'm going off of this screenshot from their site:

Do you guys recommend an aftermarket company CAI or stick with the TRD intake with the TRD supercharger setup?
