TRD Tundra shocks on 2nd Gen Taco

    So, just to be clear, I have searched on numerous forums to find any info on this before posting. There is a plethora of info regarding retrofitting shocks to work on a 1st Gen, however my question is this: I have a set of TRD Tundra Off Road progressive bilsteins with coils. I'm considering swapping them onto my 2011 4x4 access cab. I don't have the TRD package, so I'm working with stock OEM shocks and want to get a little lift to allow me to put larger rubber on the truck. Other than swapping top plates and extended brake lines, has anyone seen this done before/ heard any info? I realize the progressive shocks will ride A LOT stiffer than the linear ones that are currently on the truck. Not sure how that will translate into performance for the truck off road though. I don't wheel aggressively (not really into rock crawling/ baja/ dunes) but want the truck to work well for overlanding/ level 4 trails in Central Texas/ occasional trail runs etc, while still being DD'able. Thanks in advance for any light that can be shed on this idea.


    To clarify, I already have the TRD shocks. I'm attempting to budget myself to not spend a lot on a lift and tires. My truck is a 4cyl/ so weight is to my advantage as well with the lift.

    you're talking about progressive and linear and lift. these are all characteristics of coils, not shocks. shocks just dampen and soften the ride. shocks won't lift you at all. coils will. and I doubt you'll yield much lift out of another stock package even if its from a tundra. if anything you'll just get a crap ride.

    fair enough on the springs. the shock tube diameter is significantly beefier than the ones currently on my taco, so I'm assuming I'll increase the stiffness of the ride, and possibly decrease the amount of sag the truck displays when loaded down. The springs are longer than the stock ones on my truck, so I'm expecting to see a little lift. 1st Gen's were seeing average 2.5-3''. Some a little more (4-bangers). I'm mainly curious if anyone has any experience with this?
