TRD Tuned Bilstein Shocks 3rd Gen Tacoma Pair with OME 2888 Springs

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased the TRD Tuned Bilstein Shocks for the 3rd Gen Tacoma. From what I gathered these shocks are basically "rebranded" Bilstein 5100's. And typically the 5100's are paired with the OME 2888 (2" lift) coil springs. My question to you all is do you foresee any issues with pairing my new TRD Tuned Bilstein shocks with the OME 2888's coil springs??

oh boy smh...where did you read 5100 are typically paired with 2888? 5100's are made to use with the stock springs. you can put aftermarket springs on them but at that point you are guessing the lift you are getting. aftermarket springs are made for different weights of the car, if i have a steel bumpers with winch my height will be different then yours using the same spring. read around to see what set up people are running with what mods/stock configurations but most importantly you should try to learn basic vehicle topics before jumping in and lifting your truck.

 

888 is an option, 886 is the only OME coil that is not recommended for use with 5100s. Although I believe some have done it. I’d confirm coil seating on the OEM TRD shocks first.

Yeah, this is basically correct. According to Bilstein, the 5100 are supposed to be used with the stock Tacoma springs. Anything else voids the warranty. While you "can" use other springs, there isn't any reason too unless your truck is now heavier. In that case, probably don't even want to go with the 5100s.

I have the 5100s (5125 in rear) with the stock springs. My truck is mostly stock with a shell on the back and sliders being the only mods. The 5100s with stock springs gave me 2" in front. Icon leaf pack in the back got me 2" over stock with the shell. The truck rides/drives very similar to stock but just a bit better on bumps and corners and a bit more surefooted off road.
