My current insurance company has decided to drop me due to an "unapproved engine modification", i.e. my 4th gen 5VZ-FE S/C. Has anyone else had this bullsh!t happen to them?

I've been with them since 2003, on my 3rd vehicle with them, always on time with my monthly payments & this year switched to pre-paying 6 mo. at a time in full, never a claim other than a (1) windshield, full coverage w/ $200 deductible, no tickets, nothing. (wtf?)

They've given me the option to "remove the modification" & keep my policy. (again, wtf?)

I guess I'm looking for suggestions from those who have done a s/c install & their ins. co. didn't drop them. Names of companies other than Geico would be appreciated.

    Thank you,

Did you explain to them that it is a toyota part designed for the vehicle?

Yeah, I did & the local office said it wouldn't be a problem. I even had a Toyota master mechanic install it for me so that wouldn't be a disqualifier.

WHAT!! sounds like a bunch of BS to me. Have you considered going with a new company? I know you have been with the currant one a long time but maybe a switch might be a good thing. Hope you get it figured out to your favor. Good luck

Uh, that sucks dude. I've got the TRD sc on my truck and my insurance company never asked about that. Granted, it was on the truck when I bought it but still. That blows, I've never heard of that happening. Who is your insurance through? I have Esurance btw

Let me Guess you asked for coverage in case it is stolen??

How else would they find out ??

Dealing with insurance agents over the years most have the don`t ask don`t tell policy

I am guessing if the companies really wanted they could deny coverage for any modifications other then stock

Going with a company that insures Custom vehicles is always a option .

    Way to many Lawyers !!!

I've never had a problem with this, in the past ive met with insurance agents and asked for the standard coverage + mod value "add on". They asked me for receipts, mod list, pictures, etc... It costs me only about $3 more per month, which I think is worth it.

Sounds like some bs but I also agree with Wyoming in that its sort of an unspoken rule that you just keep that stuff on the DL.

And mods depreciate much faster than the vehicle. After 5 years it isn't worth insuring them, because the payout will be near zero in case of loss.

I would take my business elsewhere and make it clear you will advise as many others as you can to avoid their company. Not that they will care, but hopefully you can take some business away from them.
    Which company is it?

Yes they do. That's why its important to emphasize to your adjuster that you want a fixed insured amount that wont depreciate, per se.

Sounds like a good candidate for low insurance rates. Would be a good time to call around anyway and see if you can get a better deal. I did that 3 years ago and never looked back.

I went with a local insurer that had a good corporate rate with my employer. They don't operate in Colorado.

My insurance company doesn't know. Nor will they ever.

Sounds like you need to call around to different insurance companies to see what they say. Drop the one you have.

I got drop from geico after 12 yrs with no accident just because one day they send a email saying that they have extra cover for after maker parts, so i when online and I added my bumper with winch and suspension so they added to the policy for like $15 more I was cover for $5000, 3 month later I got a letter for cancellation due to the fact that I have modification on my truck. don't wasted your time they got you in record even if you removed it and later on you put it back in a case of a accident they wont cover you. just go to another company

That's exactly what happened to me except it took them 6 months & they didn't give me ANY notice written, voicemail or email. They admitted as much & reinstated my policy for 6 more months. I don't get the fuckin problem. I pay their required price for coverage of a vehicle whether it works or not. They aren't covering the engine functionality, but the vehicle as a whole. If I throw a rod, they won't cover it due to "act of G-d" & I'm on my own.

I have all the associated paperwork for this endeavor & will be taking it up with the office that said it wouldn't be a problem on Monday. I'll still be going with another company before my 6 months are up, but not until I get my greivences known.
