I have a SR5 dbl cab with the stock black shocks. I see used trd bilsteins on craigslist from guys that upgraded to a lift and they almost give them away. Would this be an upgrade or worth putting on mine?

Mostly street but I do hit some gravel forestry roads for fishing and camping. I had a sport trd 2009 and really liked how it handled on gravel. We took my buddies fx4 ranger on the same roads, what a difference!

i'd consider it a marginal upgrade at best, the black schocks you have may actually be tokiko, but not the "blue tokikos" that came on earlier trucks,i swapped the black shocks on my 99 prerunner extra cab,the ride/handeling improved somewhat and i never had a minute's trouble in the 10 years i ran them,so i can't hate on the durability...5100's put ride and handeling in a whole different catagory.

Canadian SR5 models come with the Bilsteins, and I'm on my third back set in 85k miles. I would skip this upgrade, and go with 5100s.

The shocks on my 2009 sport trd were blue and yellow and on toyota.ca it mentions bilstein shocks on the sport trd. Are the black shocks a different version of the bilsteins then?

the"blue/yellow" is basically a"4600" series, big difference in shock body size compared to the 5100,i'll assume the larger size equates to bigger piston, more internal fluid and higher gas charge,as i mentioned in my previous post,i ran the "blue/yellow" on my 99 and my 2010(trd sport, prerunner) came with them, there's a reason most guys toss them for 5100's...no comparision in my opinion.i still think the black body shocks are a "generic" tokiko.
