Hey guys, I'm in the market for my first Tacoma, which will also be my first truck.

Trying to decide between the TRD and SR5. I keep hearing about how the TRD is a bit of a lousy ride on roads. I like the off road features, but I probably won't be doing any mudding. I'd use it for hunting, maybe venture off road a little bit. How good would the SR5 be for that? Is the TRD's ride that bad on cement? I'm leaning towards the TRD, but since most of my driving will be on roads and highways I didn't want to regret the purchase.

    Thank you!

    drive em both..............

the TRD sport and the SR5 have the same rear leafs, and front coils...... just diff shocks.

The TRD offroad may have a 3leaf pack which should be SOFTER, and progressive coils which should be SOFTER initially and only firm up when being compressed I think.

besides, asking someone about ride quality is very subjective.

sr5 is a convenience package, and the TRD models have the sr5 ii package included.

I agree with Justus, drive them both and decide. I own an SR5 and have ridden or driven both the TRD Off Road and TRD Sport. On the road, they aren't that different from each other. The TRD Off Road you notice being a bit stiffer on pot-hole riddled roads but otherwise, they're pretty similar in my opinion.

The SR5 will do fine for minor off roading, it's just like any other 4wd, 2 open differentials. The TRD Off Road has the locker to help you in certain situations but, depending on where you need to go, you might not need it. The TRD models also have bed outlets where as the SR5 does not as well as some other little gadgets and traction aids.

I'd thought of just driving both, but I live in Cleveland. This is not a big truck area and TRD's are almost impossible to find. Might have to start dealer hopping like crazy, but that might be only option.

Since you're on TW I'm going to presume you'll start modding within 6 months. Decide what package you want cause you'll switch the springs out in under a year. :p
