    The Beginning

    January 27th, 2020

2016 TRD Sport double cab short-bed
Purchased used in Illinois at 61,XXX miles, single previous owner.

I had paid off my Genesis Coupe 2.0T and needed a vehicle I could drive for work. I do on-site sales and service for an industrial supply company and needed something a bit more practical than a boosted straight piped coupe.

I had searched for months trying to find a good deal on a single owner Tacoma that had the factory installed features I wanted. I ended up getting an incredible trade-in offer at a dealer in Illinois so I pulled the trigger and drove home in my new (to me) truck.

    Feburary 1st 2020
Started getting rid of the exterior chrome

3M yellow vinyl overlays on stock fog-lights. I had really liked this look on one of my previous vehicles so I figured for the cost of materials I would see how I liked it on the Tacoma.

Finished up my first weekend of ownership with a good detail. I get (most) of my car care supplies from Detail Garage in Valley Park, Missouri.

    Feburary 7, 2020
Swapped the aftermarket grille for a "pro style" grille from Mad Hornets. Quality is great for a replica part. Added a TRD badge to the front and another on the tailgate.

    March 14th, 2020
Installed a RetraxONE MX and OEM bed mat. I attached a barbed hose fitting to the end of each drain tube and drilled holes through the bed mat allowing water to drain out of the Retrax canister and out of the bed.

    April 14, 2020
AC drain mod. My frame welds looked fine but I had already spent the SIX WHOLE DOLLARS on the materials for this mod so I went ahead and extended the drain hose. These photos are from before I zip-tied everything tight and cut the excess hose.

Maintained the Chemical Guy's ceramic coating with their ceramic car wash soap.

Pulled the interior trim pieces out of the dash so I can prep them for paint.

Wrapped and reinstalled the dash trim pieces. Super happy with how they turned out. Initially, I wanted to "embrace" the orange trim and switch out my AC trim rings and knobs with matching orange accents. After weighing my options and realizing that I'm not a fan of orange I decided to wrap these pieces in white. This was not only the easiest (and cheapest) route but I think it's just enough color to break up the black-on-gray interior.

My first MESO mod, the minimalist key fob.

Also picked up the MESO coin tray and a new K&N air filter.

    Center console organizer from Amazon

Matte black "Tacoma" bed inserts. I had debated getting these for a while because I had really like the "stealthy" look of the all white bed but after seeing other Super White's on this forum with the black inserts I decided to give it a shot. I'm really happy with the quality of these inserts and the overall look.

Found a set of mint 4Runner OR wheels.

Degreased, disassembled, and a quick detail along with spray-on ceramic. These wheels will sit for a little bit until I decide on a tire. Also thinking about having them powder coated but I really love the look of the black windows when they’re cleaned up.

Washed off the 3-4 month old spray-on ceramic coating using Clean Slate and put down a fresh layer of Chemical Guy’s Hydro Charge. New wheels and tires should go on soon.

Went with the exact same Falken Wildpeak. They have been a great preforming and great looking tire, plus I ended up getting them for $136 each at Sam’s Club. Went with 265/70/17.

And this is just what came up from the driver seat back.

Wheels and tires installed. Ended up removing the aluminum trim rings from the center caps entirely. They're just too delicate. I dipped the Toyota logos black and put them back on the caps. Also ended up using some black powder-coated mag-seat lug nuts.

These wheels fit and ride so much better than the aftermarket 18's I had perviously. I haven't noticed any rubbing yet. Worst case scenario I'll have to remove the OEM mud flaps.

LED low beams installed from Diode Dynamics. Their HQ is based here in St. Louis so shipping was crazy fast.

After months of stalking the “Fender Flare Swap” thread with absolutely no luck I decided to bed liner my stock fender flares. I drive around on gravel all day for work and my factory painted flares are getting beat to hell. Here are the tools I used for removal.

Got all 4 fares pulled off in about 20 minutes. And I didn’t even break a single clip

Cleaned them up and applied some iron deposit remover from Chemical Guys.

I don’t have a garage but my apartment does has an extra sun room. Opened some windows, put up some plastic sheets, and hung the flares up so I could spray from all angles. This is after the very first coat of primer.

    And the finished product..

Swapped out the GoRhino Dominator D2 side steps for some OEM Predator Steps. Much lighter and the overall quality seems a lot nicer.

I contemplated installing a small on-board air system like the Vivair 88 but decided I wanted portability. Went the the DeWalt 20V inflator/deflator. This thing is AWESOME. Fits in the back cubby and takes my Wildpeaks from 33 PSI to 38 in about 5 minutes per tire.

I got tired of the boring old decals on the bedside so I decided to switch them out. Went with a retro style decal. I’ve got a few more small decals in transit to compliment the new retro look. I’ve never been one for decals or vinyls but I really like these colors.

I decided an easy upgrade would be to beef up the engine splash guards. I found this stencil on Tacoma World and ordered some 4 mm thick neoprene from work.
