My TRDOR has a slight dash rattle when hitting bumps. It is coming from the passenger speaker/defroster grill on top surface of dash right under windshield. If my passenger puts their hand on plastic grill it stops the noise. If I could remove it, an easy fix would be a small bead of silicone. Does anyone know how to remove this piece? Does it just pop out by prying under edge? Thanks in advance

Simple to do, but you will need to remove the A-pillar first. Once the pillar trim is removed, the speaker grill pries up easily with trim tools. Be careful at the front of the speaker grill as those clips can break easily. Start there first when you pry the grill up, though. Just work carefully.

Also, there is a very good chance that the rattle noise is coming from your speaker grill making contact with the A-pillar trim. A little felt tape in there might just solve your problem.

Also, depending on what model you have, it could be the cap for the auto headlight sensor. I didn’t have the auto headlights so I just had a filler cap there instead. It tended to rattle. If you pull the speaker grill off, you can secure that from underneath.

I just noticed this in mine for the first time the other day, I just had my windshield replaced and I thought they did something maybe. I’m not 100% positive that’s where the noise is coming from on mine, because I can’t reach it when I’m driving and I haven’t had anyone ride with me yet, but I bet that’s what it is. It’s been driving me freaking batshit.

If you are referring to the light sensor filler clip, you can easily wiggle it around and re-create the sound. It is pretty lightweight, but mine was making some noise. Easy to secure from beneath. A couple pieces of tape should do it.

This video will show you how to remove many panels in the truck for speakers. At around the 3:58 minute mark it starts on the A pillar and tweeter grill.

Where is the auto headlight sensor(or filler cap) located?

You need to pop the two bolt covers first. Easy to do. Then remove the grab handle nuts and pull the cover off. The video posted above shows it well though it shows the driver’s side.

The sensor or, in my case the filler plug, is actually located in the speaker grill cover. Passenger side. I bet the sensor, if so equipped, is secure. My plug was pretty loose. I pulled the cover and used a couple of small strips of gorilla tape to secure the plug from below.

I don’t have the sensor, so I will check the plug. Whatever it is, It didn’t do it until after they installed a new windshield. (Or maybe I didn’t notice it, but I think I would of)

As the temps drop plastics get louder. That plug is so light it might be more likely your A-pillar contacting your speaker cover. Super common issue. But if you are pulling the speaker cover to address your pillar rattle you might as well secure that plug, too. Or maybe they bumped the pillar cover and it’s now creating a tighter fit and rattling?? You might pull it to check it out and reset it. Less than 5 minute job.
