TRDOR ride vs Limited Ride...

    Obviously I know the TRDOR comes with the Bilsteins and I guess according to what I have found with google, the Limited comes with Hitachis. But outside of that, are the springs the same? I had a TRDOR and loved its spongey ride on the washboard country roads where I live. Not so much digging the firmer ride of the Limited. If I change out the shocks to the OR shocks, will I basically have the same suspension. Yes I realize the OR has the crawl and terrain select and the locker. I'm talking more about the suspension than the electronics. I notice Toyotas website says they have exactly the same ground clearance, overall height, etc. Anyone???

    That's what everything is pointing to that I can see, as well. Thanks for chiming in. I'm sure this has been addressed before but this site has become so big, it's hard to find subject matter.

    For the sake of comparison... I had a 2014 SR5 and a 2018 OR. Both double cab. The 2018 was bouncy/boat-y on blacktop in comparison to the 2014 SR5. Very different feeling on the road. I noticed the differences most at highway speeds.

    Our rode is 3 miles long off the highway to my home. It is neglected by the county and has several washboard sections and potholes are becoming an issue. Seemed my OR soaked them up much better than this Limited. It seemed to 'float' more than the Limited, if that makes sense...

    Im with you. These Hitachi junk shocks are not made for any type of washboard roads. They are poo for that. I wish I had done the OR over the sport.

    Shocks are cheap, most any shock will be an improvement over oem. The OR are just bilstein 4600.

    Mobtown sliders, RCI skids, Bilstein 6112/5160/Dakar, DuroBumps
    If you can get OR takeoffs cheap it will be a decent ride upgrade. I think the leaf springs are slightly different on the OR and I know the anti-sway bar is but those are minor things in your situation.

    4 bags of tube sand in the back of my sport makes it ride much nicer. Takes all of the bounce out for $20. Put it in for winter but it might just stay all year.

    I think the OR has different springs, if I’m not mistaken. I think it has progressive springs, which gives it a softer ride on smaller bumps, but firms up to prevent bottoming on larger hits. My OR is plush compared to the Sport that I had. I drove a couple of Limiteds as well and I liked the softer feel of the OR. The 18 inch wheels and lower profile tires are not helping any. I would think the suspension components would be a direct swap if you could find someone selling their OR suspension.

    One thing to note, the OR will have a little more body roll in turns and a bit of nose dive when braking. Mine isn’t terrible, so I don’t mind the trade off for the softer ride.

    Appreciate all the info guys. A couple mentioned the lower profile tires. I'm sure that makes a slight difference as well. I initially was wanting a loaded OR but couldn't pass up the deal I got on this Limited. Really like the truck, but not sure this short bed is gonna be for me.

    Rear leafs are different part numbers 48220-04450 vs 04240, shocks are clearly different. Hope that helps.

    Opps, edit. Front coils vary by long bed and short bed for part numbers. As well as if it has a front skid. So yes there are different parts for the OR vs the limited and Sport.

    From what I've been able to find, it shares suspension with the SR5. Not 100% sure but thus the reason for this post.

    I bought a 2016 Limited when they first came out. Dang...rattled my fillings loose over the most modest road imperfections. Within a years time I traded the Limited for the TRDOR. The Off Road rides much better ON road than the limited. Furthermore, you get the electronic wizardry of the terrain/crawl control. Spent less than $1000 for leather seats to make it a much improved on-road and off-road "Limited." BTW, those 18 inch rims don't help the ride either.
