Government says they are safe..i can post the link Later..
The only thing is the rubber is not virgin and is on an old carcus..
The tiré is not like an virgin tiré and will wear and handle a bit differenty ..
Im not knocking the idea of a retread im only giving a word of caution..
If you maintain the tiré properly it should work fine for ya..

I would find a retread co. With a good reputation and buy from them..

    This is good information.
I inspect all tires on my vehicles once a month. Retread on the truck, and "new" tires on the car. Very happy with the retreads.

I think most folks are going with the C load range, since E is designed for far heavier duty applications than your average Tacoma.

I read the summary of the Arizona and Virginia testings. They both say that failures were proportional to the usage. In other words, there's more retread failure because there's more retreads being used, so failure variance between new vs. retread wasn't an issue.

    also:

Additionally, most failure was due to under-inflation and poor maintenance.

Just thought I'd share this.... A buddy of mine (Whitecloud on here) recently got some 285/70r17 treadwrights (the mtr style) and had me mount/balance them for him. All were on Load Range D BFG A/T KO Carcasses (which were in excellent shape!). I was a bit worried that the tire would balance like crap and bounce all over the place, but I was pleasenetly surprised when they had zero visible tire hop and took very little weight doing the static balance! Whitecloud has since put them on his Tacoma and loves the ride. :) However they are noisy beyond belief!!! hahahahaha I'm guessing Treadwrights A/T retreads will be less noisy than the muds, but It still won't enjoy the advanced harmonics technology that the big tire companies use to make they're tires quieter. This technology is able to cancel out pitch and decrease road noise by making the tread blocks different sizes and alternating more and less siping around the tire. I don't know if Treadwright has done anything to their tread patterns for harmonics though, which is probably why they're so loud. FWIW...

You're assuming the OP wants 285s. Given his comment about "only having load c and e" load ranges available, my money's on 265s. Given the choice he laid out (C vs E), I think it's safe to say more Tacoma drivers are choosing C.

hahaha I haven't heard them in person, and it was his wife that told me that.... so maybe they aren't too bad.... They won't be as quiet as regular BFGs and their fancy harmonics though...

Well, you have apples and oranges. From what I understand, your friend has BFG sides with a Goodyear MT/R tread, so of course they don't sound like a BFG KM2 or whatever :p

It's the tread that makes the noise, not the carcass...

Yes, and you were saying the BFG sidewalls with MT/R tread sounded louder than new BFG KM/2s, which would be BFG sidewall/BFG tread.

He didn't say anything about side walls making noise. He did mention the harmonic technology in the "new" tires is different then the retreads.

Do you run retreads? Are they guard dogs?
