Sounds like dry rot. My first(purchased feb 2011) set of guard dogs showed signs of dry rot after about eleven months. I called them up and they said they've since switched over to a new compound. Mine were still under their two year warranty, so they sent me a new set, no questions asked.

Going on a year with the second set, no issues.

My VERY small cracks were about a "1 1/2 from the rim guard.

Has anyone running the Guard Dog M/T gotten a chance to test them out in heavy snow? If so how'd they perform?

Doubt it's dry rot. They are almost pretty much at the exact same location and same angle all around the tire at about 5.5" apart. I'm thinking it's a sign of the tread wanting to separate.

That doesn't look kosher to me.
Is it like that on the other side?

I thought about it, but I haven't checked it. I'll do so in the morning when there's more light and report back.

Ok, no cracks on the inside to report. I did, however find a chunk of the bead broken off on another tire. Lucky for me, it's still holding air.

Rattler, I don't think think they'd be able to do anything since I bought them used with about 5k miles on them. They looked new when I got them and still have tons of tread left. I've put about 15-17k miles on them so far.

I'm sure I missed it, but how do the Wardens handle? How's the road noise and how do they handle wet pavement? I'm sure they're fine offroad.

They may give you a deal on some new ones. Never know.

My Wardens behave better than BFG ATs if you ask me. I got @ 35k on mine and there is still a lot left.

True. It doesn't hurt to ask. I'm pretty set on getting Wardens next.

Woody from IH8MUD swears by teh Kedge Grip if you get snow and ice. Might be worth the extra couple of bux.

I would base it upon how much snow you get and how much love or hate driving in it. Plus how your vehicle handles in it. I had BFG ATs on my '91 4Runner and those tires were shit in snow. These Wardens are a lot better for some reason and tehy are extremely similar.

Well as for snow, I love driving in it, but we don't get much on a regular basis. So far this winter it has been little 2 and 3" storms that just make everything a mess. Is there any factual evidence on just how much faster the tires will wear with the kedge grip versus without? (I know it has been asked)

If that is the case, I do believe I will steer clear of it. I wouldn't have thought it would be that much. Maybe 5 or 10%, but not 15 or 20%. I will put pics up once I get the delivery.
