Wow at some of these reponses. I feel for the dog. Owner was being a typical pain in the ass who couldnt mind his own business. With what I see in the video, I would have done the same thing. Ive had pitbull encounters in the past and OC does not always work ladies and gentleman, sorry to dissapoint those with that alternative. Taser in my opinion could have killed the dog no different than shooting it, seen that too. Lesson to be learned here? idk....Police business not relating to you, stay the fuck out of it?

Funny all the LEOs saying the same thing, using words like "stay the fuck out" isn't very professional Imo.

100% let the cops do there fucking jobs without being a typical piece of shit pain in the ass. Seems like certain people just can't resist the urge to yell at cops for no reason.

yup it sucks to see a dog get shot, always had a soft spot for dogs, but the owner was in the wrong and ultimately caused it because he's an idiot.

So no one answered this question yet.. why couldn't the owner have been left in handcuffs and animal control called??

And to teneighty what does age have to do with anything.. people of all ages have said the cop is right and the same goes with they were wrong. What because I'm 21 (under 25 as you stated earlier) I automatically think cops do nothing right.. I'm a strong LEO supporter however I also know some are wrong.

That has been answered - Police need the handcuffed subject in the car, which risked further upsetting the dog. Those cops are there to maintain the perimeter, not babysit and wait for the dog to do something or animal control to arrive.

Okay so put the dog in the car with him.. haha I'm just shooting in the dark now

Edit: Although, all it takes to detain someone is cuffs and to stand over them if they are kneeling so you'd only need one cop to watch him while the others handled their business.

The dog will protect it's owner, a trained officer should know this.

That doesn't change the fact that no one had positive control of the dog to get it into the car....and BTW-Seeing as the subject would have to come outta the car at some point-Not gunna put the dog in the back seat.

Yes that was more of a joke.. however honestly what's grabbing a leash gonna do? Its not a stiff pole you can't push the dog away with it?

If you see the dog get in the first car - THE OWNER had to damn near drag the animal right to the door to get him in.

No leash means no control in this situation. Leash would have been some control.

Brunes, I was kidding about putting the dog in the car.

And honestly with that short of a leash and short arms even if you extend your arm all the way the dog will still be able to reach you.

I know you were -Was answering your leash question.

And I didn't say complete control, just some....I wouldn't want to be in that situation at all-So the owner shoulda secured his poor pooch.

Gotcha. And yes I still agree the owner is 100% at fault. While I slighty agree the officer mad a quick possibly correct decision, there is always another option, not that it matters now. And to the tazer question. I honestly feel the chances of a dog that size dying from a tazer are pretty slim. Less likely for it to die with a tazer then 4 shots

That is true but when in a split second decision it's a tough call and we don't know that the officer was carrying a tazer.

Bottom line... Stupid owner. Should have never been anywhere near the area. By the number of units and LEO's on scene it obviously wasn't a minor traffic law violation. This seemed to be a major incident and for that idiot to come around was wrong. It also seemed a little threatening that he was walking his dog the way he was...

    Poor pooch...
