I got the backflip mx4 4yrs ago and it’s a good strong cover but here in Hawaii island upper elevation we get so much rain, truck sticks out of carport and the dam thing leaks from tailgate, under the side rails, if you really need a cover to keep things dry good luck…..I’m ready to remove and put a rack on it.
Oh, and I don’t know about the other brands but all the small screws that holds the hinges and pull cable is rusting! For the price I paid it should be stainless screws!! Otherwise it’s o..k, and strong to carry stuff on it.
    Ok, pau rant…..

The MX4 and the Lomax are the 2 most popular options. They are both great bed covers. Both fit very nicely and are great quality. We also offer other options, if interested message me for a quote on anything

I say grab an OEM one if you can. The thing is built tough and mine does not leak a drop. And it's a breeze to remove if you have to. It's a little stout I will agree, but I take it on and off by myself all the time.

Factory OEM looks the best fitting and looking. The aftermarket ones are very nice but some look to squared off on the corners.

Having had the following covers all within a 30 day period gives me some expertise on the following covers:

    • Extang Encore hard folding cover
    • Extang solid fold 2.0 cover
    • Undercover Armor flex folding cover
Extang encore. Lays proud of the bed rails by at least an 1" which many find objectionable. What I liked was that the front of the bed could be accessed independently using a key matched to your truck on the first folding panel closest to the cab. Problem was my 2021 truck uses the newer "internal cut" key so Extang sends you an old fashioned regular cut key that only works on the Tonneau cover, key does not fit the truck. Wasn't interested in carrying a separate tonneau cover key. Toyota cargo tie down rail is still usable. Cover arrived damaged during shipping so back it went.

Extang solid fold 2.0 Run away from this cover as fast as you can. While it looks nice and sits flush with the bed rails the vinyl covering bubbled and separated from the cover within 24 hours. Unbelievable horrible quality control there. Also when folded in the raised position the cover RESTS against the back of the cab, sooner or later that has to make noise while driving. Also the hold down levers at the tailgate end of the cover are a pain to lock. Pretty much need two hands and some muscle to get them engaged in the locked position. Toyota cargo tie down rail is still usable.

Undercover armor flex. The one I'm still using. The Line-X coating is rock hard, hides/prevents scratches, and is NOT glossy black like other covers. The cover release cable is easily released with one hand although some claim you could open the cover with a slim-jim door hook between the cover and the tailgate. Perhaps but highly unlikely. When raised in the folded position there are rods that hold the folded cover in a vertical position, no resting on the cab. Toyota cargo tie down rail is NOT usable, tonneau covers the Toyota rail.

Of course other owners will have their own opinions, just giving you my 30 day experience with three of the most popular and expensive folding covers.

+1. Also the OEM has a huge advantage in that it does not block the usage of the side slider rails so you can still use all of the rail accessories. In fact I just purchased a cargo divider which works fine if you mount the tightening knobs upside down. I would ask if whatever tonneau you are considering is going to block the rails, which I believe provide a lot of utility that I would not want to give up.

I would have liked to go with the OEM Toyota cover but every single one I've seen has quickly faded to a chalky gray color.

I’ve had mine for 8 months in Arizona sun and so far it looks pretty good. From what I understand using 303 on it keeps it looking good.

Mine looks new for 3 years old, however I garage it and use 303 monthly.

Those bolt on rails cover the entire track right? If that is the case I won't have to pay to get mine installed. I was planning on getting the Rough Country hard folding cover for the same reason, it has 1 piece rails and no clamps.

Same here. Just got back from hauling a dehumidifier with the stock cover folded back so it'd fit in the bed.

Works good for a buddy of mine also. As a floor in his deer blind. I sold the hardware on here for him and he put the OEM cover on the ground so his feet would have a little insulation from the wet, cold, ground when sitting in his blind.

That's actually a pretty good testimonial for the OEM cover! Great truck tonneau cover and tough enough to hunt deer on! I would just hate to be the poor bastard lugging that thing in and out of the woods. :)

He left it in the woods till spring then threw it on the burn pile he told me yesterday. He left it out in his woods for 3 years though. He never had to worry about anybody stealing it. lol
