ECGS offers pre-assembled 3rd members and front diffs you can order in whatever gear ratio locker combo you want really. You'll have to pay a core charge then ship your 3rd member and front diff back to them and get credited your core charge back. Unless you have done gears before or have someone on hand to help trying to work through some of the little nuances in getting backlash and the pattern just right can be frustrating. It's not terribly hard though there are some calculations and such that you can do first that get you really close then just do some finite adjustments. Also pinion pre-load is really important if you get that too tight then you run through bearings really fast.

 

Think I will also leave to the experts although working on a 79 Chevy that needs some changes.

 

Just call ecgs and they'll hook you up. I've used them since they opened on getting rebuild kits and gears and such.

 

Touched base with them already just need a good point to go over. Probably will go with 4.30's after all the other discussions on here. Automatic TRD sport and don't intend to go any taller than the 33's (or smaller) but also will have a lot of highway driving towing my trailer over the next few years. Keep watching the OVTune thread and while they are doing a lot of SC trucks they only have the tuners for those with more knowledge than I have. Probably need to do a bit more reading and wait for the standard tunes to come out and all the bugs to be worked out. So when does the bumper come in?

Made a spare tire mount. Was going to have it made at a local fab shop but the dude was too busy to do anything for me so I went to our aircraft maintenance shop and grabbed a bunch of spare shit and went to town.

 

Very nice. Looks solid and unlikely to break in any way.

 

SOS Offroad HC rear bumper is here and getting primed and painted. Install tomorrow.

Well, with the current set-up, she exactly where I want her for now. Nothing else to do until I'm ready to go solid axle. I guess I should get on the ball acquiring parts.

 

That's the first HC rear bumper I like. Looks great.
