I've had that guy on ignore for months.

10/10 would keep him there again.

Sounds like your ignore button isn't working correctly.

Justin- if a coil is sagging (or "settling") it is failing. I don't what revelation you speak of. It has always been this way.

After you install and then lower the truck to the ground, drive it around the block once. The suspension will seat into its permanent position. It doesn't change 6 months later. Springs are not designed that way

So you're saying it "settles" after a drive around the block? But no longer than that?

It's not the spring that settles, it's the bushings, spring setting into the perch under weight, etc. When the truck is off the ground the wheels are at full droop and kind of angled in. The drive around puts everything into its normal alignment. This might compress the springs a tad into their normal position.

My point is the springs don't lose their stiffness over 6 months or whatever long time all the different myths and misconceptions state.

Weird. Every spring or coil I've ever installed over the last ~20 years has given me the false impression that they do intend to settle over the course of a couple hundred miles. I think most people on here would say they experienced the same results.

My past two sets of front coilovers would beg to differ with you, so would the rear coils on my mothers 4Runner, oh wait the springs on my old Ford Explorer would like a word as well. Strange to think that spring steel under constant pressure and occasionally shock load might weaken over time. Metallurgy is fun isn't it?

Mr. Eaton himself would like to have a word with you.

Maybe you are confusing settling with compressing. Installed coils with an empty gas tank and then went and got it filled? Yeah, maybe we can call that settling in a round about way.

What about when your front end is 1" lower than it was a couple years ago with the same weight

    Is that compression or settling

I think you are attempting to use semantics to avoid being wrong. I know for a fact that my Ford Explorer (may it rest in peace) started out level (even held up under a full tank) and 13 years later sat with a heavy stern favored lean. Using your terms, it compressed permanently *cough* settled *cough*. Rhetoric and double speak are neato but kinda lose their luster when you study them...

Anyway, I'm happy to say you're right, the world is flat, Churros are disgusting, the devil has never "went down to Georgia", and fat bottomed girls do not make the world go round. If that'll make you happy, cause I'm bored arguing the obvious, have enough of that dealing with daily politics.

Dude, after 13 years the coils are failing and need to be replaced. That is not what is being asked. We are talking new springs after install.

I am wrong? I didn't know you are a spring engineer

Couple of years later? I dunno. Did you add a new bumper? Sliders, skids? Eat too many cheeseburgers? Bushings starting to wear? Other components out of alignment?

    Could be million different things

Hold up.... stop the presses.... disengage hyper drive... Springs fail?!

Now we are speaking the same language, lets discuss time now. Is there a point where a spring just poof fails? Or does this happen over time, in this case a long time. Now, still with me, what if some of this long term lowering happens right at the beginning as you put load on it for the first time. Please tell me you see what I'm saying because I'm running out of creative ways to say it.

Are you trying to tell me that a spring fails within a day of install?

If you are asking me if a spring sags after 6 months, depends on the miles and amount of abuse inside that time, but for most people in normal driving conditions no it does not. 10 years? Yeah probably a little.

It is becoming obvious you don't know what this conversation is about because you are arguing a fact that has nothing to do with what the adults are talking about.

@T4RFTMFW I tried, I really did. That whole ignore thing looks pretty decent right now

I suppose you only hear what you want to hear in the end. Either way I tried, perhaps one day a light will come on and it will all make sense
