Big difference will be that if Ford goes with either the 2.0 L or 2.3 L Ecoboost they are both newer but mature engines. The newest 2.0 L came out this year in the Escape and the 2.3 L has been around since 2015. No major issues with either engine as of yet. The very first 2.0's way back 5 years ago loved to crack manifolds but they changed the designed and no problems since.

While the 2GR is a mature engine Toyota went with a unique variation with a different top end in the Tacoma first.

yeah, you are about due for your luck to turn. unfortunately, that has little to do with whether the new Ranger will be trouble free. Common sense says that there will be issues with the Ranger- despite the fact that it is already in production around the world- complying with US regulations and all that entails.

Who knows. I haven't heard and neither have the people I know. I don't doubt though that they may choose not to sell a manual transmission at all. They aren't sold in the F-series lineup at all anymore.

...^^^... I never get offended here :) ... no problem ... this 2016 Tacoma is my best first year vehicle ever.

i.e. .... had a 2000 Tundra (bad front end wobble) .... 2007 Tundra (transmission out at 500 miles) ... 2004 Titan (rear diff out at 1,000) ... 2005 Tacoma (cracked engine mounts) ... and 1 other Toyota I cant remember the year.

This 2016 Gen.3 is becoming a super star for the "first year" for me.

I just like aluminum bodies because we used to build them for emergency services and the military.

If and when I trade I'll stick around to post for years to come just because we're all close like family now.

Right. If there was a physical moderator office, pretty sure they'd all sit around throwing darts at my avatar taped to the conference room bulletin board. I've received private messages from some of them essentially echoing that sentiment.

I wouldn't say it all that inique. Toyota has used that top end tech on the Lexus line for awhile...especially the IS.

The IS doesn't use exactly the same engine. The 2GR-FKS uses a different version of VVT on the intake side then the FSE in the IS. When you make changes like that shit can happen. I'm not saying that Toyota should of went with the FSE in the Tacoma but having a vehicle with the first version of a new engine redesign is a little more disconcerting then having a proven version of the engine under the hood.
