Tried to remove a few scratches... now how to get the haze out

So I got a few good scratches last time I was out there in dem woodz... two of them run all the way from the front fender to the rear...

However, on the good side, none of them were so deep that my finger nail would catch on them so I figured I could buff them out.

I got the old buffer out and hit it with ZPC (Zaino polish with a VERY mild abrasive.) I did several applications each being applied and removed with a random orbit buffer. After the 3 or 4th application I noticed it really wasn't doing anything. I broke out the old rubbing compound and did two coats and while the scratches are still there they're not at all noticeable unless you're up on the truck.

Unfortunately, all of the areas I used rubbing compound on, are now hazed. Is this something I can buff out with more polish (not rubbing compound.) Or is there another product I can use to get rid of the haze? The haze isn't that bad but I know it's there and it's driving my nuts.

    Thoughts?

Do you just apply it and take it off with a buffer?

I use Meguiars Ultimate Compound with a 3" polishing kit from Harbor Freight. As a last step you could use a swirl remover.

Make sure the truck is 100% clean and dirt free before you do any buffing on it.

    same shit as everyone else
I think you're gonna have to go back to the polish and see if that clears things up. Then move to regular old carnauba wax. It's all about using less and less abrasive compounds progressively when it comes to clear coat shine. Maybe also try a denim polishing pad if need be. Small sections at a time.

OP, I don't want to be a downer but it looks to me like you might have burned through the clear coat. I did the same thing on my truck on a rear quarter panel and tried the same polishing techniques. The fix was a repaint of the rear quarter panel.

Need to know what "grit" your polishes are. Sounds like you are going to need a multi-step polish now. You might should have a professional detailed come out at this point so that you don't burn through the clear coat. Newer cars don't have much clear coat on them.

Iv used Menzerna products in the past. You need to start with a grit lower than the compound you used. If your compound was 1500 you need to start with 1000 to get that out. Then move up to a 2000, then 3000 and finish with a 4500 or 5000. Not sure what all is available now. Been a few years since iv done one.

Problem is you may have backed yourself in a corner and need to do the whole trick now.

Don't do anything else. Take it to one of the specialists you see working the lots and ask if the clear coat is burned through.

Try Meguiars Ultimate Compound and then go over it with Megs Ultimate Polish. They are designed to break down before they damage your clear coat (in theory) at this point it won't hurt to try. Worst case scenario your out $20.

That is the stuff I used that burned through. I even called Mequiars before and discussed the situation in detail with one of their "experts." They said it could not cause any harm. Well it did and $500 to repaint is what I experienced. It looked just like what the OP is calling the clouding or fogging.
