Bought my first Toyota last week and I have been trying to figure out what alarm model I have. The window sticker shows "S6 Premium Security System" and the booklet that came with it just shows "remote keyless entry upgrade security system". It was a dealer install, and according to the 4 page booklet, it should come with a glass sensor. I can pound on the glass and nothing.

On a side note, I am loving this truck, I was a ford lover for a long time =)

    thanks!

Isn't the glass sensor something that goes off when said glass is broken?

Nope, the manual states that a soft impact to the vehicle glass will trigger warning chirps. I have hit it with my elbow and even jostled the truck a little and nothing.

A true glass sensor will only detect broken glass...basically it is a microphone that listens for a certain frequency of noise (I believe around 1KHz) that glass makes when it breaks. You can hit it all you want and its not going to trip the alarm. An impact sensor is what detects hits to the body, they usually measure light impacts that give a warning chirp, and heavy impacts that trip a full alarm. As for the brand/model, I don't recognize that one.

Hit the glass with the tip of your key, it should set the alarm off.

Well I tested the windows tapping the key, still a no go. I guess I will have to contact the dealer and see what the S6 package for the alarm encompasses, although the guide does not specify if the GBS is optional or not. I hope that it is just not activated yet.

I've never seen an alarm come standard with a glass breakage sensor.....it is always an add-on piece. I think what they mean by glass breakage sensor is the impact sensor....if you break the glass usually its going to create enough of an impact to trip the impact sensor (unless they use a center punch). If you want to test the impact sensor, get in the vehicle and arm it, wait 30 seconds then hit the steering wheel....that should set it off. That'll prevent you from having to hit the outside of the vehicle or the glass which can cause damage (trust me, I've broken a windshield testing an impact sensor before)

I will give that a shot. The alarm isn't standard, it's the S6 upgrade, about $370extra on the window sticker. I bought this truck out of town from where I live, but I inquired about the features from my local dealers. They all confirmed that it comes with shock/glass break censors. I don't know if they just weren't fully installed or if they need to be enabled somehow. I bought the truck in Boerne, but they had to bring it down from Dallas.

if it is a glass break sensor that measure frequency, try putting change in a glass jar, and jiggling it inside while the alarm is armed and you are sitting inside/ or stand outside with window down, while alarm is armed of course

Thanks Cross! Tapping the steering wheel made it do the warning chirps and a more solid hit with my palm made it go off. Should I get warning chirps if I rock the truck?

Worth a shot as well for peace of mind!

Rocking the truck will not make it go off, it will only detect impacts. A digital tilt sensor is what makes an alarm go off if rocked or, more likely, jacked up....anything more than 3 degrees from a rest position when armed will set it off....these are useful if you have nice wheels you don't want ripped off or to prevent it from being loaded onto a flatbed.
