I just switched from an iPhone back to Android (Pixel XL), and I'm having trouble with call log and Message syncing to my 2016 Tacoma's Entune system.

On my iPhone, when playing media through the system I would have album art and media controls on my vehicle display. When I first connected my Pixel it did the same thing at first. Then when I got back into my truck later it didn't detect the Bluetooth connection and I had to manually reconnect and suddenly the album art and media controls were gone.

Additionally, when I try to sync my call log and messages, the vehicle display says I need to respond on my phone to allow the connection but I am not receiving any notifications on my phone so it ends up timing out.

First step, can anybody using an Android confirm that media controls and album art do actually show up on their display when connected and this wasn't just an iPhone feature?

    Thanks.

Pixel here. Yes I get album art, media controls, etc.
You need to go to the phone's settings menu, bluetooth, select the gear to the right of "Toyota Tacoma", and make sure all the appropriate boxes you want are checked.
If it still doesn't work, long click the "toyota tacoma" connection and forget it. Do the same on the Entune headunit. Then re-pair them.
As a side note, occasionally when my connection auto starts playing music when I get in the truck I won't see album art. It will show when the next song starts or if I hit pause and then play. It's not a big deal to me so I just leave it.

also, download the "entune" app from the play store. It will run in the background of the phone when you're connected over bluetooth and offer the headunit an additional avenue for data.

i had the exact same problem with my Pixel XL when I bought my Taco.... Follow what @Freetime said. Completely "Forget" your device, then reconfigure everything, click the little "cog" on the side of "Toyota Tacoma" in your bluetooth settings and make sure all the little boxes are checked. This will give the truck "permission" to access all of that. Also, make sure the bluetooth PIN matches both on the phone and on the truck (this should sync automatically)

I did this, and mine works great now! Good luck!

Had this problem as well, make sure you have the latest software update (for pixel). I ended up restarting my phone while connected to Entune and then it prompted me to allow for contact access.

Thanks guys, I'll give all of this a shot. The main thing I needed was to confirm that I should still be seeing the album art and media controls so I wasn't just wasting my time troubleshooting.

Restarting the phone while the truck was on actually solved the issue. Just like you said, I got the prompt on my phone to access messages and now everything appears to be working. Thanks all for the suggestions.

I'm not on the pixel, I have the 5x. Do you guys get an issue where the BT pairs and connects, but when it starts playing automatically the song info isn't displayed on the screen. After you hit next song it will show correctly then. Almost like the head unit isnt updating the info properly.

I just go in, turn off my bluetooth, then turn it back on.... this usually fixes it

A radio reset while driving sometimes will fix this as well. Hold down the volume button on the head unit until it restarts.

Bumping my own thread here. After a month of using this phone, there is about a 90% chance whenever I start the truck that the media controls for bluetooth streaming don't show up properly. The audio streams, but the media controls and album art don't show (same issue as my original post). Just checking to see if anybody else has the same issue constantly. It gets pretty annoying to have to reset the phone every single time I get in the truck.

I have a strange suspicion this is related to Nougat. Same issue on my LGV20 with Nougat, but when I had my Note7 with MM, none of these issues!

Since my phone updated to 7.1.1, half the time I get in the truck it won't autoconnect. I just have to cycle bluetooth off/on and it will reconnect.

It's issues with Nougat for sure. Bluetooth is buggy since the developer preview.
