Google Music, Spotify and PocketCasts (podcast app) all do it. Doesn't seem to be app related, but just Bluetooth in general.

i have the nexus 5x and get the exact same experience. About 50% of the time phone just wont connect. I have to cycle the Bluetooth connection on the phone and it connects. When it does connect it will play songs, but the info on the screen will show what was previously playing before I shut the truck off, and it will stay there until I hit "next" which forces the song info to update. Really annoying.

I suppose its good you guys are confirming that its the phones issue. At least then we can hold out hope for a fix.

Any luck here? I have a Pixel XL and having issues with either a) BT doesn't connect at all (maybe 25% of the time); b) I get no artist/song info and can't use controls when listening via Google Play Music (90% of the time).

Really wish this all worked better. If Entune would allow linking to GP Music I suspect this would work a lot better. Drat.

I hate Pandora, IHeartRadio, etc. so all those baked in app linking features are useless to me.

I use the Pixel. I have none of the problems you do and I stream Google Music to my truck twice a day minimum for 30+ minutes. You need to try deleting the BT connection from the truck side, then delete the pairing from the phone side. Then reconnect them and do NOT allow contact sharing. Often, too many contacts will overwhelm the headunit.

Forgetting and re-pairing seemed to do the trick. I have to wonder if using entune's "app suite" is what screwed me up. I de-linked Pandora and removed it from my phone entirely so hopefully things will just work now.

bumping this up. I got the my truck June 2nd and when I first paired it, everything was working. Album art work, controls etc. But the next day when I started up, the HU didn't see my phone but the phone saw the HU and connected. That's when I lose all ability to control media from the car and unable to see album art. I will attempt to have the HU and Phone forget each other and do the pairing process over again.

I do believe it's the BT on the Pixel XL's that's causing that wonky behavior, but i must say that I attribute some of this to the entunes, because I've used this pixel on previous vehicles with no issues. So it might be a combination of the 2

I agree and I've had the same problems. My thoughts on this:

Immediate fix is to have both devices forget each other, then re-pair. So, remove the Tacoma from your phone and vice versa. Then repair them. That should fix the album art/music controls problem.

My phone only connects every 3 or 4 times, then it won't anymore. The fix for that is to power cycle BT on my phone.

There does seem to be some inherent BT problem with the Pixel XL, but Google are such fucks about these little things that I don't have the energy to work with them on it. I know the rabbit hole will end up with me factory-resetting the phone and I just don't have patience for it.

Bluetooth in general fucking sucks, complete piece of shit protocol and I wish it would die and these things would just work over WiFi instead.

In general I found this whole BT experience with these two devices super annoying, so I threw a bunch of mp3s on a 32GB USB stick and I run my music off that. It's way better and more reliable, and sounds way better too. Just a better, easier experience overall. I recommend it.

Oh and I should add that USB lets you browse your music collection very easily from the display while you're driving, which you can't do over BT unless you're using Pandora or one of those stupid "Entune app suite" things.

I work for Team Magenta and get to test out new phones here and there prior to release and that's one of the things I focus on a lot is BT connectivity from phone to vehicles. I don't listen to the radio nor do I care to sub to XM Radio so having that ability to stream and have some sort of control of that is important to me as well as our end users. Truly frustrating.

With regards to the issue at hand, I do feel that a power cycle will work but for how long? You shouldn't have to do this every now and then, it should just work. Curious, if I plug hard plug it into the USB port will it act like the iphone and recognize it as an ipod type device?

Man, when I DL that app on the phone and opened it up I was truly disappointed by the UI it look like someone threw it together and not by something a mulit-billion dollar corporation would be pushing out to their customers.

Yeah, it's no permanent fix. I've done it a few times already.

Don't believe the USB port will act that way with your phone. Best you'll get out of it is charge, I believe.

You seem like a candidate for an aftermarket HU that supports Android Auto. I've thought about it, but I'm just gonna live with it as-is.

I've thought of it as well, but I like full integration. If an after-market HU can work w/ the steering wheel controls then I might consider it. It may end up being one of those Android/Entunes quirks that you live with *sigh* and no I will not go back to the iOS ecosystem.

It can integrate with steering wheel controls and the heads-up display, for the most part. People here have done it. You need the iDatalink by Maestro I think. Crutchfield can sort all of that out.

The reason I don't want to go full Android Auto is I love being able to use nav without touching or relying on my phone whatsoever (can leave it in my pocket or bag or just not think about it). It's cool to punch in a destination hundreds of miles away and have the truck just remember you're going there whether you stop for gas, stop for the night or whatever. And it will run nav regardless of what else you're doing (listening to the radio, etc.) Android Auto is a separate thing and you have to be in that and it needs your phone connected to work.

if you haven't done it yet, you NEED to do all the updates for the headunit. Connect it to your phone via bluetooth, start the Entune app and log in. After a time or two, the button should pop up on the bottom of the head unit that says something about an update. Do it. It fixed a few quirks I had with my bluetooth early on.

Well, i went out to the truck, deleted the previous pairing and re-paired it and it's working now. I see all my contacts etc and album artwork/title is showing. Let's see how long this goes for.

I've had these issues as well. I have a samsung gear S3 watch. I found that the pixel cannot share BT with more than one source. So I shut off the contact sharing and phone audio sharing on my gear S3.

Are you paired to more than one device when connected to Entune? once I turn off the second device my entune connects to my pixel immediately.

I have done this a few times, find that after I restart my truck, it goes away. I believe it's a conflict on the most recent android release with having more than one BT device connected to the phone.
