I need help! I was in my truck for a couple of hours closing and opening the doors and following the program steps feeling like an idiot as my neighbor just stared. Ha!

Now I can get my truck in the program mode however, when it is time to actually program the remote (press lock and unlock buttons then lock immediately after) the locks cycle twice EVERYTIME!

I tried this in the "add" mode and "rewrite" mode.

I did buy this remote off of eBay from remotesremotes.com. Is my remote just screwed up or am I missing something?

First off, is the remote you got an old OEM remote?
Below are the instruction to reprogram a remote on a 2nd gen. I used these instructions on a 06 and a 10 so they should work. They were used to program OEM Toyota remotes, not an aftermarket.

    1. Make sure all doors are closed except the drivers door

    2. Insert the key and remove it from the cylinder twice (just insert and remove... don't turn it) ending with the key out

    3. Close the door and open it twice ending with the door open

    4. Insert and remove the key from the cylinder ONCE

    5. Close and open the door twice ending again in open (you can just press the button on the door jamb with your finger)

    6. Insert the key into the ignition and close the door.

    7. Turn the key in the ignition from lock to unlock twice.. ending in the lock position... then remove the key.

If it worked, the doors will cycle lock/unlock lock/unlock to let you know it's in programming mode.

    8. Press both the lock+unlock on the remote and then relase them... right after press lock only and release it.

If the remote is recognized, the door locks will cycle lock/unlock one time. If it sees the remote but didn't program to the car it will cycle twice here.

When in rewrite mode.. opening the driver door... or 40 seconds elapsing will end the mode. All old transmitters will be replaced.. so have all that you want to program there when you do it.

Also.. you have to do it relatively quick. The actual Toyota instructions say each step must be done within 40 seconds of each other.

    so its...

insert key, remove key, insert key, remove key

press button let go of button, press button let go of button

insert and remove key again... only once

press button, let go of button, press button, let go of button

    insert key, close door,

turn key lock-on-lock-on-lock... remove the key.

    door locks lock/unlock...lock/unlock

press lock+unlock, let go press lock again.

Update. They sent a new one and it worked so it was a faulty remote thanks for the quick replies!
