The problem here is you live in California. This is a sign to GTFO and move to a real state

The only issue with using the underhood label posted earlier, is it's for a 2005 and looks like OP has a 2007. If someone with a '07 V6 would be kind enough to snap a pic of their underhood label, then the OP could/should do as suggested by printing it out and taping it to the underside of their hood.

Every new vehicle sold here since the emissions testing was incorporated in 1965 should have one. You've probably never heard of it having been here your whole life, unless you've imported out of state/country vehicles and had to go through this hassle with DMV and CHP.

@Sriracha Tacoma check this out. Section 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 specifically:

Late last year I actually just imported a vehicle from Iowa (my grandpas ride when he stopped driving)... the sticker must have been there and I didn't even check. I had to do the whole take it to a DMV and have them check the vehicle and all that. Hm, learn something new everyday!

Okay, so the OP should show the tech this section of the BAR manual and the problem should be rectified. All the tech has to do is look up the specs.

    1.3.2 Emission Control System Labels
    Underhood Emission Control Label:

Underhood Emission Control Label: Each vehicle’s underhood emission control label serves as the primary source for emissions control requirements and to indicate the vehicle’s certification type (California and Federal). It is important to review emission control components on this label, since emission control system technology changes and varies between vehicle manufacturers. A missing or illegible emission control label does not constitute an inspection failure. In cases where the emission control label is missing or illegible, the inspector may proceed with the inspection provided that the required emission controls can be determined using other sources as described in section 1.3.1. Note: Some diesel-powered vehicles are equipped with a second or additional emission control label affixed to the engine.

Here's one from my son's 2007. If the OP needs a full resolution pic he can PM me his email address and I'll send it to him directly.

Agreed, which is why I tagged him on it.

Printing out a copy of the label and taping it to his hood won't hurt anything either.

For sure. The situation strikes me as an uninformed or nervous tech. Realistically, if he paid for that inspection he should not have to pay this time through. Further, I would want the station to remove the “failed visual inspection” outcome from the system as it was a technician error rather than a real “fail”. Those notations show up on a Carfax and probably elsewhere. Good solution blu92

That’s funny. People are so geographically ignorant most would wonder why there are so many OK plates in Austin. Really, you should do that with a NY map. People from LA would probably feel at home. Those of us who are leaving because of the stupid stuff... we know how to read maps, but we’re coming because we like what you’re doing.

Hilarious. Reminds me of when a navigation app stopped working, took me forever to get out of the city I was in.

Work used to have me in other cities all over the country for a few days at a time. It gave me a chance to see how others live, what people are like, weather, housing market, etc.

There’s plenty to complain about living in LA, CA. Random hoodlum crime, housing cost, gun laws, and of course owning a vehicle dealing with the dmv and smog laws. There’s good stuff too, weather, the ocean, arts, mountains, desert, etc.

I suppose it’s what one becomes accustomed to what’s normal. I already know I gotta pay $50-70 every 2 years to hopefully pass a smog check to be given the privilege to pay the dmv more money for a 1x2” sticker.

The thought of having the sky drop a tornado to kill me is terrifying. But during an earthquake, I don’t even stop what I’m doing unless something is about to fall on me. What I’m accustomed to.

I’ve had family in this city for well over 100 years. As frustrating as it may be, it’s home. No offense taken from anything previously said.

If you get a good enough picture of one, blow it up and stick it to your hood.
