I have a 2005 Taco 40K miles on it and am having the same problem. I am not sure if this is covered under warranty, would it be under the 5 year powertrain warranty? If not how much does it cost to get this done not under warranty?

    getting there....
it should be covered,as there is a tsb for reflashing the computer. go into the dealer and tell them you are having problems with extended cranking, and you know there is a tsb for it.

My '08 has done it from the start. Not that big of a deal, more of a minor annoyance than anything...

Cool, thanks guys, yeah it is more of a minor annoyance and I am not too stressed about it. It just looks kinda lame when someone is in the cab with you and it won't start. When this happens I say "Yeah it doesn't start but it looks pretty cool"

The Toyota technical service bulletin for this problem is EG011-07 JUL 07 Engine Controls - Intermittent No Start Condition and here is the way to fix it: http://www.empirepao.com/tsb/T-EG011-07.pdf

I am going to the deal today to get this done so I will report back how it went.

So I went to the dealer and got the ECU (ECM as they say in Canada) recalibrated but it doesn't seem to have worked, when I tried starting it today I have the same issue. By the way the Canadian TSB# for this problem is 2734 and it was covered by the powertrain warranty. I wonder if the ECU is faulty and it needs to be replaced or if it is another problem. I have an appointment with another shop to see if they can track down the issue.

OK, I feel like an idiot, someone mentioned to me that I should try putting my clutch right to the floor when starting (I have a 6 speed manual) like when you shift into 4L. If I do this when starting I never have this problem anymore! It has been almost a month and I never get this issue anymore as long as I put er' to the floor when I start it. I thought I was putting my clutch to the floor but now I make an effort, force it down as far as it will go, turn the key, and it fires up no problem. Go figure!

Did this ever get addresed? my 06 prerunner has just started to do this. Anyone know if the ECU Reflash actually works? Or is this just a waste of time?
