I have a 2002 Xtra Cab and I'm trying to swap out the stock front door speakers. I've tried two different sets, both that Crutchfield claim fit, however both have been too deep to fit in the factory speaker mount. There is a part of the mount that is shallower than the rest of the opening and the back of the speaker hits that and so it won't mount flush.

Has anyone had this problem and if so, what is the solution? I see talk about rings that will raise the speaker higher, but I checked ********* and they only have 2nd gen stuff it appears.

I called Crutchfield and they just suggested dremel-ing out the offending part. I'd rather not do that, so I'm looking for suggestions of other solutions.

    Any help is appreciated.

Is the mount removable? I just did speakers on my 99 thru them and got new mounting plates included.
