my 2018 Tacoma is doing this strange thing where sometimes when I park it won't let me lock it (fob and touch on handle) and when I try it beeps loudly until I press the unlock on the fob or open the door. It also seems like it's still on in some weird way. I have to restart it, put it in drive then park and turn the truck off again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will allow me to lock it. HELP PLEASE!

Does the symtom occur with both Fobs? Try taking the coin battery out of the Fob and rough the metal contacts where the coin battery sits with steel wool. This seems the help when my Fob acts strange.

I have a semi-similar issue, but it’s partially due to my remote start system and my remote.
My first suggestion is to change your battery in the remote, or swap remotes with your secondary. 9/10 that’s the culprit. The loud complaining is because not all doors are closed or keys sensed inside. Perhaps, if not the remote… one of your door switches is not working properly or set correctly.

Thank you. Both fobs have brand new batteries.

Since both batteries are new, try roughing up the metal contacts gently with steel wool and see if it helps. Good luck.

This exact thing happened to me 6 months ago also on my 2018 OR. This was a sign that the battery is going bad in my truck. What I did at first was, I disconnected the battery and connected it back after a few minutes, and the issue went away. Then, 4 months later my battery was totally dead and I had to replace it. I went a battery from Autozone.

For this, there is a small push button in the door jam. It is covered in a black boot.
Work with someone holding the remote away from the vehicle and check these individually based on past experience of what might be the culprit. You may be able to correct it by manipulating it to clear any corrosion. There are electrical cleaners/lube and can easily be found in the electrical department of your hardware store. CRC is the best and most notable of these.

What exactly do you mean by this? I feel like whatever this is, is most likely your culprit. I could see the truck giving you a fit if you try to exit the vehicle and lock it while its "not in park". Maybe something to do with some sort of parking sensor/shift mechanism being faulty, if your fix has been to put it back in drive and then back in park.

The parking sensor/shift mechanism sounds like it could be the culprit.

My ‘21 has done this 2x in 12 mos . It acts like the key is still in the truck, when its not. So I just restart then shut down and its fine. The dealer could not duplicate, fob+battery is fine. I guess its a once or twice a year glitch that I can live with .

Thank you that is helpful. I also feel like the dealer or any mechanic could duplicate.

    pinstripes. lots of pinstripes.
Door sensor. Truck thinks the door is still ajar - I'm always quick on the trigger while the passenger door is open and it'll emit a continuous tone til the door shuts.
