I attempt to remove rear shocks on my 05 Tacoma and top of the shock meant to hold the shock in place while removing top nut broke off. I am stuck. What would be my next step to remove the old shocks? I am sure this happened before to someone.

There won't be an easy way to get it off now without destroying the shock.

    Options:
1: Use a cut off wheel up top as others mentioned.
2: cut off the plastic shock boot and put vice grips on the shaft to hold it still while rotating the top nut.

Got a lot of stuff lol
When I did mine it went from "Oh its only 4 bolts!!!" to Its only 4 bolts -___-

I used my tungsten carbide bit for my dremel. Pretty much anything that cuts metal well will work.

    Pics will help a little

I cut the originals off my 05 with a sawzall last year when I put the billies on. After 10 years and 150xxx miles of service they were shot.

I cut the nut off mine. Easy to remove after that.

I used a nut cracker and a dremel to remove the drivers side when I replaced mine.

I just replaced the rears on my 05 Off Road last Tuesday. On one side the nut came right off. The other side I ended up having to hack saw the shock shaft just below the nut. Took less than 5 minutes. The old shocks were headed for the garbage can anyway...
