OP had a original no crank problem.

Now so many more parts have been introduced to the system any of which may have been bad out of the box !!

Could be a bad rebuilt starter bad relay now adding to the original problem

Following this train of not troubling shooting Time for a new Truck

I agree Wyoming09, he should properly troubleshoot his no-start condition. Not throw parts at it! Which is why I suggested he read through the thread I suggested. And bc I've had a similar nearly identical no-start condition on my Taco. In addition to that, anyone can make posts like yours while TROLLING through threads. But not everyone can give a little of their time to help a total stranger. And if you're wondering I am an "ASE CERTIFIED TECH" 15+yrs exp.
But I don't throw that around when I'm just giving a guy a hand, bc we all need help sooner or later and some more than others. Thanks for the response though

First of all the only "new part" in the system is the starter. That will be back to the original once it is tested at a shop.

All other things were taken off of my main Tacoma and placed back after a test. They have also been verified to be working a 2nd time with that truck. my bases are covered on those parts.

I understand the concept of troubleshooting and am not getting ahead of myself in that regard.

Ideas for things to replace and verify with a 2nd working truck is the way I'm making sure there are no bad parts in the system.

Are there multiple clicks? One brief click?

There is one single click and it sounds like it's coming from the bottom section of the engine, I will verify if it is starter itself after I get off work in about 10 hours,

I assume this is "your" truck and not hers?

I'm definitely no expert, and I don't know if it would matter but clutch start cancel? neutral safety switch malfunction?

This is my wife's truck with the problem. It's a automatic. Good thinking with the clutch start though, I have had that issue with mine and my plunger switch busted and that caused no start, except there was no click.

These are the repairs that drive a tech nuts. You have replaced the mechanical aspects of the system and assuming that the parts put in are in proper working order it appears that there is an electrical issue. You HAVE to do a voltage drop on the wires related to the starting system. This is not a resistance check with an ohm meter this is a test that checks the wires ability to flow current (amps), not volts. Rather that me going over it point by point in a message there are many examples of videos on the interenet showing you the what and why.

There are 3 main grounds on your 3.4. The first is the ground for the battery on the engine block, drivers side lower front. Give it a wiggle first. The second ground is just off the negative battery terminal to the inner drivers side fender and the third is off the passenger side cylinder head rear to firewall.

The positive lead goes from the battery down along the front of the oil pan then goes back to the starter.

Did you take the old starter in to an auto parts store for testing?

In your info you have both a manual trans and auto trans Tacoma listed. Which is this? The reason I am asking is that the wiring for the neutral saftey is different. I am not there to see if the clunk is the starter relay or the starter. Just because the part(s) are new does not mean they are good.

    Thanks,

I will be getting a multimeter later today to test all leads and voltage drops.

I didn't know the location of all the grounds, but I'll be checking each one now.

The old starter will be tested later today.

I have 2 Tacomas, mine is manual and the wife's is auto, this issue is on the automatic.

    Thank you for your time!

Use a good set of jumper cables to by pass the battery cables from battery to starter see if it works then.

Update: I have tested both new and older starter at O'Reillys and they both work fine.

The old one sounded a little weak and had a whine but spun fine.

The new one seemed to be more consistent with pitch and had less play in the pinion.

I have kept the new starter and reinstalled it.
No reason to go with a starter that sounded that weak.

2nd time re-installing the NEW starter and the click is still there.

    Battery reads
    • 12.62v No load
    • 12.50v ACC
    • 12v on START
    Starter reads
    • 12.62v No load
    • 12.50 AC
    • LESS THAN 1V ON START.
    I'M MAKING PROGRESS!

I'm not sure what exactly this means however.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds

I would try to get a jumper cable to the starter from the battery and see if it starts

I placed jumper cable on starter terminal and batt pos.

    Turned key.

It was sluggish like it didn't want to start but it started!

Leting it run now to recharge batt.
