if my reading is correct the FXR takes some customizing of the reflector

The Mini slides right into the existing reflector opening. The FX-R will require some fabrication to make the reflector center hole larger and you will need to drill 4 holes to mount the projector.

The TRS website has PDF instructions for both installs.

Ok so I'm having trouble deciding between:
    1. Projectors (LHD North America vs. RHD Euro...which is brighter? Euro?)
    2. Sealing glue...is this generally needed or does everyone use something different?
    3. Shrouds...which one for a 2012?
    4. Wire Harness...which one?

Still waiting on an email back from matt

    1. i dont think its a matter of which one is brighter.. i think its a matter of which one is made for the american streets because we are left side drivers... the step on the projector from left to right is low to hi....It is designed to lower the step so you wont blind oncoming traffic.... Euro is right side driver so the step on the projector from left to right is hi to low.... Iono.. i just totally guess that..... LOL but it sounds legit doesnt it?

    2. Get some sealing glue. Use it in addition to the stock gray butyl thats already there

    3. Which ever your heart desires. Many use gatling gun shrouds (requires some modding). Some use the Apollo. And some use other types.. whatever you think looks best

    4. H4/9003 Wiring harness

what? neither is brighter each style right hand drive and left hand drive have a step in the cutoff so that you don't blind other drivers.

if your vehicle is left hand drive then choose left hand drive projectors its that simple...

shrouds are not model specific to your vehicle if there is room in the headlight housing and the shroud will mate up to the projector then your golden.

hd wiring harness not the can bus imo. you could use either but, the hd relay harness offers way more protection than is even needed as added insurance.

butyl rubber/window weld is what is applied in the channel of the headlight. as a matter of fact fuck it dude i would send these to a professional and heres why. if you are using your factory housings your running a very big risk of just plain old ruining them due to your lack of experience. btw aftermarket housing have been known to have inherent flaws that can lead to a whole bunch of issues so if your dropping all this cash do it right use the factory housing and have a professional perform the retrofit.

factory housing are a solid 450 dollars brand new and thats on the cheap side after market housings can be had for around 90 a pair if you search and the only brands you should be using are tyc and depot brand as they are of way better quality than the rest.

also just wanted to let you know that "brightness" is determined by only a couple factors non of which you listed. one is projector choice mini H1 fx-r are going to be the best imo. there are other nicer bi-xenon projectors but, their size can seriously complicate the process. the fx-r is hard to beat man it really takes a ls 460 imo to truely best the fx-r basically i would stick to the mini H1 and the fx-r and leave it at that.

wattage if your running your system with a 35 watt ballast this is the standard wattage and your able to run that on every projector. 55 watt is on average 20 to 30% brighter but you can expect shorter bulb life and for the bulb to color shift more. not to mention that you can not run a 55 watt ballast with every projector ala the mini H1 because it's an open design not a closed design the heat would destroy things.

bulb choice if you go 35 watt pick a quality bulb ie, morimoto, phillips or osram period.
and if you end up with 55 watt trs sells their morimoto branded bulbs in 55 watt as well the glass tube is thicker as is the electrode and the base is beefed to handle the extra juice as well. thats what i run and they are awesome.

kelvin rating, this is where people fuck up constantly! they spend all this money on a nice set-up and ruin it by putting 10k bulbs in there. a higher kelvin rating does not equal a brighter bulb actually in fact it means your losing light and a good deal of it as well. stick to 4300k or 5k thats it. the 5k is pure white light while the 4300 has a tinge of yellow mostly only visible in the cutoff.

also aiming another way most people ruin a good set-up. take your sweet time aiming them correctly!!! first off you won't get flashed second off they will work better catching street signs and cones and lighting them up like its christmas while still being safe. if and when you get your set-up completed kneel in front of your truck with the lights on and bob up and down you will notice that for a moment while either descending or ascending you will pass through the color flicker. the portion of the cutoff that has the color in it usually blue's and purple's depending on kelvin choice. you want other drivers to stay on or above your color flicker!. that way no one gets blinded and to others your projectors themselves will look blue and purple coming down the road. so you get an asthetic and functional gain from aiming your lights correctly.

good luck it's more work than your thinking it is and it can get very expensive very quickly.

    hans

lol he is really busy i'm sorry man this makes me look like a douche.

he is coming down again to pick up a new set of housing from me on the 2nd so i will mention it to him again lol he is completely redoing my entire retrofit. they both leak and he blames it on the use of non oem housings.

i think it's because either he screwed up some where or the housings i sent him have some sort of defect in them they where tyc so as after market housings go they are one of the best but, still have less inherent quality that the stockers by far.

lol inside the last tyc's i had apart the screws where all different i think they have to do that for fear of copy right infringement or some shit idk lol.

either way i told him i'd spring for the factory housings for him to work with at my expense btw 450 bucks for a set! lol then he told me that if the parts can't just be switched over he was going to charge me in full again for labor and materials and the parts that he would not be able to use again like the shrouds and rings lol.

all i know is i hope this dude gets shit correct this time they have been on my truck for a little over a month and have been taken off to be resealed now 5 times!

edit: lol i do still believe that bjorn lightwerkz and clearcorners.com are the best and only place one should even attempt to go for a retrofit. this guy has been rocking and rolling out probably by now over 2 thousand retros and i have never heard one horror story so i think i just gave him bum housings it could happen i guess.
