Truck bed fender compartment idea

If I don't go flatbed, I was thinking about doing something like this for my Overland build. What do you guys think?

I was thinking a boat store might sell little compartments like this.

 

I am missing my cubby inside my bed and had a tow strap fall from inside my bed down to the floor. My point is there is a bunch of wasted space there, I think its a great idea

 

How much room is actually in that spot ?

 

My thoughts exactly. I am also thinking of storing a water container between the bed and fender. They make skinny ones that would fit. And then install a spickit/fill cap, maybe even have a hookup for a water pump+shower system.

that would be the best, I don't think tools would be good cause they bounce around a lot but a water storage tank or something would be siiiiiick

 

I'm not so sure. If I can find the right cubby with associated door hinge or struts, all that's left is some edge material, epoxy and rivets.

 

I just looked , only about 6" of depth from the bedside to the composite bed , maybe 24" of height

 

The bed side is not flat though

 

skinny but tall would be the way to go

 

Sounds like plenty for a first aid kit or maybe straps. Just something to fill the void

 

Seems it would be a bit expensive in proportion to the small storage gain. Rubbermaid mo cheap.

 

Don't get me wrong , I'm not trying to talk you out of it , I just don't think I would find it worth it for the amount of storage gained but look forward to pics if you pull it off

 

Yea no worries. It's always good to hear more ideas, even if they are against it. I'd like to give it a shot. And even if it's not a lot of room for much, I'm sure I'll learn a lot by doing it.
