I've noticed my truck bed looks low on the left side. I measured at the center of the rear wheel openings and sure enough, it's a little more than an inch lower on the right side (driver side) than the passenger side. Is this something the dealer can fix? I'm coming up on my one-year service in May.

The leaf spring packs are different for the left and right side. You probably have a right side spring pack installed on your left side. Or you could have prematurely worn or broken springs.

It's the infamous taco lean, caused by the weight of a full gas tank. Check again with a empty tank.

Just chiming in on my experience with the Taco Lean... I have a 2017 DCLB OR, and dealer confirmed it's sagging on driver's side at least 1/2", and visually it looks like crap from the back seeing the tailgate slant towards the driver's side. The dealer opened a case with Toyota, and Toyota said it's within the specs and characteristic of the truck. Whatever.

Anyways, I took the truck to my local spring shop, and he said he re-arches leaf spring packs all of the time for this issue, Ford, Chevy, Toyota, etc. Usually one side or the other. He's going to re-arch my driver side leaf pack with progressive rate, and will take care of the driver side extra weight (fuel tank, driver) that causes the lean. He looked at my driver's side leaf springs and noticed a bump or flattening out in the middle, which I was told is a resulting characteristic of varying quality between spring suppliers on the assembly line. Crazy. Anyways, I'll be happy to get this issue fixed and have a level truck!

It really should be called a toyota lean since the FJ had it as well. I'm sure other models have/had it as well.

My 2017 Tacoma 4wd access cab is 1.25” lower at left rear compared to right rear. The front measured the same from side to side. You can visibly see the tilt to the left if you park on level ground and view from the back.
Assuming the gas tank was partially responsible I put weight on the right side. It made no difference. I contacted the service manager at our local dealer who informed me that the lean is due to the suspension design and Toyota has deemed it characteristic of the vehicle. When Toyota uses this terminology it means nothing can be done and the dealer should not make an attempt to correct(otherwise they start the lemon law clock).
So I contacted Toyota’s National Customer Service at 800-331-4331. I informed them of the concern, also letting them know the local dealer had deemed it a characteristic. Now, And this is important, I told them NOT to just route this back to the dealer as a open contact. This is what they will do 95% of the time. They’ll route you back to the same dealer who already told you there’s nothing they can do.
I let them the whole reason I called is I think the “design” is NOT desireable and Toyota needs to address the issue and remedy, a TSB. I went on to say the only way Toyota will address is if owners call them and log concerns. I think it’s unacceptable that a new vehicle does this.
If this tilt bothers you here’s what I recommend:
1.Take to your local dealer and have your concern documented on a repair order.
    2. After the dealer inspection contact customer service at 800-331-4331. Advise them that routing this back to the dealer is pointless. Request Toyota address the design flaw and remedy.
3.The rep will document the request And issue you a case number.
If, at some point a TSB is issued, and your vehicle is out of warranty at that point, you can use the case number and repair order to prove you brought it their attention at an earlier date.(assuming it was under warranty at that time).
The more people that contact Toyota at the National office the greater the chance something is done. I was told by the dealer that many owners complain of it, but don’t take the time to contact Toyota. Toyota will not listen to dealer input, but they will listen to owners.

The only proper solution to Taco lean is a golden retriever sitting shotgun with you in your truck!

Years ago I had a Tercel pull into the service drive. It had a severe lean to the driver’s side. The driver, a woman well above 400 lbs., complained of the lean and the fact her car pulled to the left.
    That was a tricky conversation.
