Truck bed rail system 2016 Tacoma

Planned on mounting some RockyMounts (for bicycles) on the rails on the front of the bed.
Unfortunately header rails are not included on 2016 Tacomas.
A trip back to the dealership and $45 later my problem was solved.
Future Tacoma buyers may want to request the header rail before they drive it off the lot.
Toyotas reasoning is that the tri-fold bed cover is not compatible with a header rail.
My reasoning is a Truxedo roll up cover will work fine with the rail.
End.

 

I am waiting to see a rail for a dirt bike and Truxedo setup.

Is this the part number everyone posts about?

Do you have pics of the rail and this roll up cover on your truck?

 

I was annoyed it wasnt automatically in the bed to begin. Then I remembered my last Taco I never used them up front. Good to know we can still get them added on.

 

Picked up the rail today.
Install tomorrow.
Truxedo for '16 should be available in 2-3 weeks
Looked at rolled up Truxedos on other trucks and it rides high so as not to interfere with rail system.
The good news is the header rail is in demand by '16 buyers and dealers keep them in stock.

I was also annoyed it wasn't on the truck but more annoyed at myself for not noticing.
$45 and an extra trip to the dealership.
Don't know about the part number but when you mention header rail the parts dept knows exactly what you want.

 

Mail ordered my rail, showed up today. Still waiting on the truck...

 

I picked up the headrail I ordered from the dealer and discovered that it does not come with the plastic end caps. The dealer is having a hard time finding the part number to order the caps. Also I stripped the torx head on one of the screws and need a replacement. Anyone know the part numbers for the end caps and the rail screws? Thanks!

 

End caps are part number 66134-04010

Can anybody give me the name of a Toyota dealership that sells OEM parts online for the 2016 Tacoma? I'd rather not have to travel to my dealer for items such as rails, end caps, etc.

Jeff, do the dealers sell the bed header rail? If they do, do you know the price?

 

I stripped mine too.
Thank god for Dremel tools.
Don't know the part number but it was $4 and change for 5 new bolts.

Learned not to attempt removal unless you have a t30 driver.

 

What purpose do the end caps serve ?
I can't envision the end caps making anything I mount to the header rail more secure.
New Tacoma owner.

My experience from Des Moines dealership:
Not only do they sell them they have a large supply on hand. (Because of demand)
Parts guy gave me the "dealer price" of $38 and change as opposed to the $45 list price.

 

Agreed. I have 3 bikes across and need the 2 outside locks on the outer edge to get them to fit. W/ the end caps 3 wouldn't work.
