There were 109 engine complaints on the 2005 Tacoma. But wasn't the second gen a 2005.5? So lets look at 2006 the first year of full production.
Ok for 2006 there were 171 engine complaints filed with NHTSA. Care to guess how many 2016 there are?

Did you even read the complaints? Some were for oil consumption issues and hard starts at over 50,000 miles. No failures. Some guy's blown differential cause check engine lights. There were no reported engine failures on the 2005 Tacoma from that site.

There are only 2 so far for the 16 complaints that is. So it would appear its better.

No engine failures mean no engine failures. When a blown engine leaves you stranded on a Highway unable to get home, that's a failure.

That was for his 1995 First Gen Tacoma....Completely different than the 1GR in the 2005 Tacoma.

No, I'm saying that the release of the 3.5 motor in this Tacoma isn't fairing well compared to other 1st year model year releases.

This is a 3.5 motor that's already questionable if it's able to perform the duties of a light pick-up truck.

Really 1 confirmed and 2 maybe's out of 50,000 engines is a very small failure rate. Go read the Colorado forums or Jeep forums. The release of the 3.6 pentastar was accompanied by 2 head redesigns in the first year. My sister has a chebby 3.6 that has spent almost as much time in the shop as on the road.

I should have meant other Toyota first year model releases. My apologies for not being descriptive enough.

Can we get a Mod to clear out some of this BS. I am trying to keep up with the issue Lindsay is having and how they are taking care of her. If I wanted to read two or three guys argue about how many engine failures there were between gens, it should be in another thread.

How would we know that though? How could you prove it. I based my decision on things like NHTSA complaints recalls and how I feel about the vehicle. This is my 5th Toyota and I have no doubt that if anything pops up with my truck It will be taken care of.

Part of the internet forums, is to have tangents.

Use the ignore if you want to weed out extraneous comments.

MPGs on a truck?!?!? WTF is that???? I just did a calculation of my MPG the other day. I'm pushing 12.7 MPG. :broccoli:

Would it be possible for you two to start another thread? You're spamming this one and it probably makes more sense to have a thread on engine failures elsewhere.

Ah, gotcha. I was just curious...also for future reference, if you tow again i would put it into shift mode, it defaults the gear limiter to 4. By doing this it will avoid going into 5th and 6th which are both overdrive gears. That way your transmission won't overheat from the shifting between gears.

And here I thought that I have heard the last of Friggin Fuego and Blue Turd because I put them on my ignore list. People, ignore is your friend. kybluejeep...use it as it will lower your blood pressure!!!!

As for Lindsay, hang in there girl! FYI, EPA standards are getting tighter and tighter each year. Manufacturer's have to meet those and it does not matter if its a truck, car, motorcycle or jetski. As you know, the vehicle would not have a towing capacity if it was not designed to do so. Hopefully you will find your happy place whether it's your truck with a new rebuilt engine or a new vehicle altogether. There are folks here that feel your pain and sympathize. My 2011 Harley CVO($40k motorcycle) was months old with 6k miles when the rear cylinder exhaust valve froze open. I was in Kanab Utah. had it towed to the nearest HD dealer and there it sat for 4 weeks while I made load and insurance payments. Had to wait for this American made motorcycles parts to come from Argentina to get fixed. Hey, new parts and off we go.... Thats why you have a warranty!

Keep your chin up girl, get her back and drive it like you stole it!
