I know this place...only been there once but definitely want to camp there on the east side where the fire rings are. How often have you camped there?
Ever get hassled? It is on private property afaik. It is pretty awesome during the right season.

After looking at the map, it looks to be national preserve land. Never saw any signs or fences and i'm been there 3 times already, but only camped once. Plenty of signs that others have camped there before. This is just north of the lava tubes. Not sure what the fire rings that you speak of though

If it is the crater that starts with a P and ends with a H the last time I was there, bout 4 years ago it had private property signage or something similar. The signs are probably from when it was an active mill site. The one I'm mentioning here is south of the 40 and west of Amboy Crater.

No doubt about it! It's called the Aiken Cinder Mine and it abruptly shut down operations in 1990 and everyone walked away leaving everything intact. I personally love camping at old mines. :D

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
North Hampton Beach State Campground in the ADK. Big and busy but well cared for. No rain but plenty of mosquitos. Gotta remember to not actually pack the bug spray. Just put it in the truck where it's easy to get to. Our fresh meat was crack for those damn mosquitos.
We set up in such a hurry we had to laugh at ourselves. It worked. Beer and wine stayed cold and we had fun.

Taco sags a bit since I had nearly all out gear and supplies in the bed instead of in the teardrop. First trip with the teardrop so I wanted to go easy on it. Had to climb one hill in first gear (fortunately a short climb) but up we went without issue.

Where did you get the on-board water/shower setup? I've been thinking about building one!

For the first time, I camped solo with my two daughters in the back country. One night quick camp. Table Mountain BLM area. Originally we tried for Cleveland National Forest, Mt. Laguna area, but we were unable to setup camp before the flash floods started. It was nuts. We were about 2 miles off pavement when the flash floods hit and the dirt road turned into a mud river. We sought escape to pavement and returned to I-8. Then headed east to Table Mountain BLM area. We found a nice secluded site in the back country. Had a nice peaceful night with a full moon. My kids got a long great and we all had a great time.

Thanks. The trip was short, but great and full of adventure. Camping with two kids under 5 is a challenge, doing it alone, even more so. But I'm proud to say, that they have been on so many trips now they know what to do. I was so pleased when my oldest unpacked the blanket tote, and distributed the pillows and blankets without even being told. So awesome.

The tent is a Kodiak Canvas 10x10 VX series tent, I believe it's model 6011. It's a 4-season, stand up to anything, lifetime warranty, hand it down to your kids kind of tent. We're very happy with it. :)
