It was Croom. I forgot it was a holiday weekend, the place was packed!

My friends and I go up there quite a bit once the temps cool down (like now, nice and cool for tent sleeping). It's a long 8 hour drive for us so we usually go for the weekend and camp.

I'll send a message next time we're going for sure.

When setting up on hard surfaces, parking pad at a campground or Moab kind of location, do you have an alternate option to stake out the changing room?

I just use whatever's available then. I've tied the top ropes off to a campground picnic table, nearby tree and even to a boulder. I've also used rocks to hold down the stake straps. Not a perfect solution if it got really windy, but has worked fine otherwise. I have yet to not be able to find something I can use. I suppose if I was going somewhere that I knew would be slim pickings, I could figure out stuff to carry with me.

Nice setup. I am looking forward to my first trip with a camper shell...may I ask where you got the poles for the tarp (are they telescoping?) and also the dimensions/how you secured the tarp to the roof rack? I'm sure I can sort this out, but just curious since you pretty much have the setup I'm after.

    Thanks!

My wife asks to bring a TV when we go camping.

I leave her home with the TV.

I don't get it. I go camping to get away from electronics and all that stuff.

I agree with you guys, this however was not a "camping trip". This was a surprise date that I took my fiancée on. Love the inverter! Powered my Tv and DVD player we watched fun movies and drank. We do plenty of camping w/out the electronics. This is the only pic I have to show off the truck tent. Also the ranger rolled up just after dark and made me put out my fire...to dry in Utah they put a ban on fires that day forward. The TV saved us! Can't do much at night camping with no fire

god damn. I'm going nuts not being able to camp. I'm living vicariously through everyone's photos. So keep 'em coming! :)

For those who've endured with fire restrictions... There is a solution. :D I recently purchased a Camp Chef Redwood portable propane fire pit from Costco for $100. I'm very pleased, my wife and I have been using it quite a bit in the back yard. Next camping trip it's coming along! Can't wait.

The propane is a good idea but if they have open flame restrictions you're still screwed.

Last time the fuzz rolled on us in northern CA, he told me he could fine me for a candle being lit, even though he said he would never do that, it was a possibility.

Funny! :D But ignorance of the law is not an effective defense against it. :( Some quick searching reveals that it was a joke in 1993 and people laughed when the fine was $25 dollars! However most fire ban fines in national forests have been increased upwards to $500 thanks to the federal judiciary. And in some places (Arizona) the fine can go upwards of $5,000.

Actually, Good news! According to the research I've done the propane fire pits are permitted even when fire bans are in place. :) My general understanding is that the propane fire pits fall under the same exemption as a "gas stove" and are therefore permitted. Do some searching on the subject, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :D
