small propane tanks have a downside, if the rate-of-use is too high, they will freeze up faster than larger tanks, causing loss of pressure. case in point... my friend rail testing his 1:8 scale 2-10-2 steam engine for the first time that he spent the better part of 10 years making from scratch...
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ5XoW2uuBk

before they complete the loop at GGLS (Tilden Park, Oakland, California), they completely run out of steam due to the baby propane tank freezing up.

for the curious, here's a prior video of the engine running on the shop stand for the very first time under steam (he previously ran it on compressed air while testing and fine tuning the valve timing).

Mojave National Preserve. Campground was at 5,600' where there was an inch of snow blanketing the ground. Kinda cold have to say in the softopper, even with my silver bubble wrap lining the ceiling and sides, but had enough blankets and sleeping bags so not too bad.

Looks great! A fire swept through there 11 years ago and burned a lot of the vegetation. Can you still see evidence of the fire?

Hey Nick, how ya doing bro. Your photos and build page just get better and better! Yeah that 2005 Hackberry fire was bad. There are still a lot of signs of burn, black trees everywhere, fallen trees, but there were a lot of Pinyon and Juniper still doing well.

Thanks, doing all right. I've not yet camped there. I'd like to check it out one day. Thanks for the compliment. I like your camp setup. I have the same Nemo shower and stove. I like how you used the bed extender as a camp shelf.

That metal stool under the water jug looks stout. Does it collapse down small?

Neat picture with the slow shutter. Thanks for sharing your pics. This is still my favorite thread on TW. :)

I was out in Baker driving to Sandy Valley, NV as a "sweep" truck following all 500 motorcycle riders doing the LAB2V ride, then skipped outta Vegas and headed into the Mojave National Preserve for some exploring and camping. So i had a lot of moto equipment including a moto stand(thats what the 5 gal blue water jug is on) It doesn't fold down, i wish! The bed extender i brought cause i was prepared to take 3 broken dual sport bikes in the back if i had too.

I love this thread and seeing all the places we all go and all the different gear everybody uses. That's why I'm planning on attending my first overland expo in Flagstaff next year, to draw inspiration and gather intel!

Yeah it was a great spot, with good shelter from the wind. But still cold and windy up there at 5,600'. It's called Mid Hills campground. $12 per night self-pay. We were the only ones there, i think it's a more popular spot in the summer. Mojave National Preserve (MNP) is absolutely amazing. The forever views, the lava fields, the old mines, Kelso sand dunes, tons of jackrabbits, the railroad thru the whole park, the sunsets, the mountain peaks, the quick changes in weather, the cactus varieties, its all really cool. This photo doesn't do it justice, but we felt like we were on the moon. The Mojave trail is waaaay out in the distance.

My friend had one of these in high school with a manual transmission no less! He took out the middle bench and we took all our skiing, hiking, and camping gear in there like that with passengers in the back row and front passenger seat. It was awesome since none of us had a truck lol.
