Truck Camping Photo Thread

It's a Sportz Truck Tent III. The picture above mine shows how it looks when you set it up correctly. The weather was crappy so I didn't practice putting it up before I went out. It wasn't hooked to the rear of the truck right so it wanted to lean to the back of the truck. It was in some 25-30 mph winds and held up great. Took an air mattress and an old thermarest pad and was comfy at below freezing temps. It'll fit two if you really like the person you're in there with.

Sometimes I'll sleep on the ground, like in an old cowboy cabin:


Or occasionally on a cot:


Very rarely I'll sleep in an old tent:


Most of the time I'll sleep in the back (especially since the topper's been on):


Although I'll just rack out in the front sometimes:


But then periodically I'll just use my other set-up:

Only set up for 1 night. Wasn't prepared nor did I enjoy being over-ran with Ticks and what not.

On one of the days, we went to go check out a few trails. I got stuck for the first time (high centered) and had to be dragged forward by my buddy's 4Runner.

I have the Campright, and it works perfect for me.

My dog and I spent a 25° night in there this weekend. I was snug as a bug in a rug. He was too warm, as usual.

 

Nice place, which campsite? Havent been up there in years, since they closed Sunset campground on the Kings Canyon side

 

Same tent for LB and SB?

 

Eshom Campground.

I think we're both short beds, just a different angle. They do ask you to specify 6' or 5' bed when you order it though.

 

He's a LB. Look at the gap between the wheel well and cab.

 

Okay, I see it now. Time to hit the bright button on the screen here. He has the tall guy version of the tent. One thing I found with the short version is the mattress was right up against both the front of the bed and the door of the tent in the back. Had to put a bit of extra effort into jumping up high enough to clear the mattress when getting in. May end up coming up with a useful storage container that'll double as a step for my short legs.

 

Yes, I'm a LB, it's two different tents for the LB and SB

 

What size tires and wheels do you have on your truck in those first few pictures? What kind of wheels? Thanks!

Yep. No desire to go up there again. That road is full of rocks and the last section to the lake is a slow going small boulder field.

 

Camping in the Jemez Mountains Memorial weekend 2013.
Setup worked out great but sadly I sold the camper the day after the trip.
Moving on to a 18-20 foot bumper pull travel trailer for more comfort space!!!

 

Wow, thats surprising. Thats one of my favorite camping spots, I need to get back there one day. I think the boulders help keep people out.

 

I'm very jealous of all of you with the nice scenery.
