Keeping it simple and fish focused lately - dry enough to use my comfy pad under the bivy too

But tent camping when the lady’s in tow - luxury! Woke up to a herd of elk behind us that trip too.

Just got back from a long weekend camping trip with my son. We went just outside of Fort Payne, Alabama. Nice and quiet, not a lot of campers and the spots were private from each other. Shortly before my truck got it's first dent, and second, and third, and forth... Courtesy of the great acorn storm of 2022.

My 2008 SWB Tacoma has the same paint issue. There's another 2008 Tacoma in my neighborhood that has primer on it's roof. I've encountered several other Tacomas with the clearcoat on it's way out, and they were all 2008s.

Pretty sure 2008 was Toyota's worst paint year.

A Cascades Quickie and Creepy Encounter

    Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, WA

finishing up a three-week truck camping bender with a one-nighter in the Cascades

found a quiet, remote spot near the dead end of a Forest Service Rd with a decent view:
    wc1.jpg

In the early afternoon a white pickup drives by, does a 180 at the dead end, and passes me again.
About an hour later the same truck appears again, drives up to about 20' from my passenger side and sits there idling for about 10-15 minutes. There were no markings on the truck, and I can make out 2 males in the front in civilian clothes. It finally does a 180 and leaves.

About an hour later (3PM), the truck returns and pulls the exact same procedure.

At about 8:30 I see some headlights approaching and as it passes, I can tell it's the same pickup. This time he passes me, does a 180, and pulls within 30' perpendicular to my driver's side with full lights blazing, and sits there idling.

I don't know what to make of this, so I chamber my .38 and grab my spotlight with my left hand and wait. My plan is to spotlight and verbally challenge anyone getting out and approaching my vehicle. But luckily the truck just idles for about 15 minutes, then slowly passes to about 40' from my passenger side and idles for another few minutes before leaving.

At the very least this seems rude to pull right up to some stranger's campsite in the night with full lights blazing.

nothing easier for breakfast than a protein shake:

Sketchy. Whatever they were doing, you could be assured they had bad intentions. I camp with a 75lb ball of muscle who goes on alert to any noises outside of the truck or tent. His growling and barking are usually enough to deter most predators, animal and human alike. If that doesn't do it I can be reassured they've got bad intentions and would be compelled to go on the defense.
