I wasn't route tracking at all but here's a rough outline of two weeks on Google Maps. https://goo.gl/maps/jVodwUqqB9Q2

Route took you right past my late grandparents old cabin just west of Pinecrest lake down in Mi Wuk village. Love it up there.

Oh yea we rented out a "cabin" out in Mi Wuk a few years ago. It was more of a mansion, 6 bedrooms, bunkhouse, tennis court, volleyball court, swimming pool with it's own bunkhouse and another separate guest house. That's a really nice area to be in. Kinda sad we can't rent that property anymore otherwise we would be up there twice a year at least. Part of the reason I decided to swing north back to Sonora Pass (instead of Bakersfield) from Lone Pine because I just wanted to see that area again.

It’s a CVT Mt Shasta Summit tent that I have mounted on KB Voodoo hi rise crossbars over my tonneau cover.

Check out my build link in my signature for more detail.

Thanks, I'll check it out when I get back home. I'm working on a similar setup but going to use bed bars that are flush mount and probably put the tent on some 1-2" risers. Any issues running the tent that low? Do you have an annex?

I guess some things that are the result of it being low are that
    1. I can't prop open one side of the window awning that's toward the cab of the truck because the spring bar doesn't have enough room.
    2. the platform is too low really to serve as an awning (and as you asked, would leave a lot of excess material hanging down were I to attach the annex)
    3. it is pretty much dinner table height for a grizzly.

There are big advantages though. It's much easier to setup because I can reach everything easily and mounting it low keeps it out of the wind so it doesn't cause a lot of drag while driving.

This is the tent I use because I have a soft open canopy. Believe it or not it has been through hell in WY and MT. Never has leaked once, but did have a small river flowing along side it during a downpour. Throw it and it opens up.

...I know, not a rooftop tent...but it does the trick...was interesting when the coyotes were sniffing the edge by my head at night in WY

Those are the main reasons I've decided to go with a bed mount too. I also like that I could cover the RTT and all my gear inconspicuously under the bestop. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Me: Sparrow hammock, Hammock Gear Inqubator under-quilt, Jacks-R-Better Universal 10x12 tarp. Use a North Face down sleeping bag on top rather than an over-quilt. Been down to 12 degrees and still toasty inside, not even close to its limit. My cousin has a similar set-up and has taken his down to -2 degrees and was still warm. Slept on the ground and in a tent for over fifty years. Air mattresses, memory foam pads, cots. All, never again. Forgive those Lord who do not try this. They know not what comfort they miss. Hammocks: Sleeps FLAT, ALWAYS level, ALWAYS dry!

I just bought 2 4 season underquilts. 1 for me and one for the boy for our kits as Christmas presents. We've been using Arrowhead equipment quilts, and have been down in the 20s, and are looking to go lower.

This is my third hammock. I went from the Skeeter Beater, to a Hammeck Netty, to the Chamdleon. My boy still rolls with his Netty, and my daughter now uses my old Netty.

My tarp is the UGQ Penny Pincher 12'. What a great light tarp for the money.

Yep, same progression here, but started with, what else...an ENO! Talk about a gateway hammock. Wonder how many bought an ENO or equivalent and got disillusioned before they tried a real camping hammock? Then I had a BIAS, then a ThunderBird, then sewed my own, then this Dream Hammock Sparrow. I spent an ocean of money and time learning, getting to hammock nirvana. That DutchWare hardware is hammock meth, can spend a fortune fine tuning and refining your suspension. Still run the Dutchware suspension. I wish I had just listened and bought the best to begin with. By the way, I still have all those other hammocks. I will sell them cheap.
