I honestly get sick to my stomach with all the new hammock "gimmicks" that pop up on the market. I see people hanging from trees with paracord and get angry at new hammock dealers for not educating their audience on using tree straps and proper setup.

Seconded on Hammock Forums. It's also worth noting that if you spend the $10/year you'll get more out of it than any backpacking blog/article/video/other forum, at least in my experience.

Very cool interplay of the starry night negative space w/ the yellows on the foreground.. reminds me of Van Gogh's paintings.

Yeah, me too Ken. Haven't been to the hammock forum in years. Soaked it up like a sponge when I needed a reference source, like I am doing here, vetted my needs, honed my hammock craft and haven't been back. The Borg. PERFECT characterization of that collective. A cult if there ever was one. I am a consumptive user of our great outdoors. I eat my fish. They don't like that. They let theirs go. I feed my family with what I lawfully take in the way of fish and game. That don't fit in well with most on the hammock forums, does it Ken? I could give a rat's ass. Still, if you know nothing of hammocks where else are you going to go to find out? So please be a little tolerant and allow me to direct those on this forum that are interested to that compendium of info if they are so inclined. You: "This forum is about trucks, and this thread is about truck camping." Ken, I'd like to point out that your statement exhibits the same Borg-like intolerant attitude that your previous post raged against about the hammock forum. This thread is 204 pages long. Three or ten posts about something other than camping in or on your truck too many for your sensibilities?

Yeah. Its a great resource if you're looking into some of the intricacies of hammock camping and UL backpacking, and a bit of buahcrafting. I think I cut upwards of 8-10lbs off my base weight for backpacking from the stuff I learned there.

That said, there is a certainly a "vibe" there. Honestly, don't bring up guns and you'll probably be fine. Don't let that put you off as a resource entirely though, the people I've watched have trouble there usually go asking for it. I own guns and shoot and I've never had any issues with anyone there, or even anyone at the group hangs because I don't go in starting crap with everyone else. Take it for the learning opportunity it is and leave it at that.

Yes, reread Teegs and Ken's posts. Some of the more militant and active members on that forum are the kind of people who would glare at you with contempt if they saw you overlanding in your Taco on land that they thought was sacrosanct for backpackers. Basically, anywhere there is not pavement. Really far out in the boonies gets you total contempt. No guns, no leaving 4-wheeler tracks, no eating the fish and game that God has provided to sustain us. And a litany of other no-no's as the sanctimonious multitude see to invoke in real time as the urge hits them. (Listen hammock forums...a little unfinished business: When the urge hits me I'm taking a crap in the woods and I'm LEAVING IT OUT THERE, toilet paper and all, OKAY? As a concession I'll kick some leaves and dirt over it to hide it, but taking a crap in the woods is one of the great pleasures of being in the outdoors, so deal with it! You wanna carry yours out and compost it, knock yerself out!)

Go in, keep your head low, read, learn, perfect your hammock craft, and desert the place as soon as its utility runs out for you. GREAT resource to learn though!

    Dude, you aren't a member of hammockworld.com?

Where else you gonna find out what size tree straps you can fit on your hammock without trimming or post what you did to your hammock today?

Where would one go to lament the actions of HAMMOCKBEAST?

Wow, I guess I didn’t realize that the intricacies of hammocking were so complicated as to need a forum to discuss said hammocking. I’m intrigued to take a peek inside the hammock world!

It's its own rabbit hole. Deep and potentially expensive. It costs money. Buy the expensive stuff first, cuz' you will end up doing so in the long run. Buying it first will save you a ton of money. And time. Said the idiot that tried to po'-boy it and ultimately didn't save either...

But...I am one comfortable SOB out in the woods!

It's the Zion Wright Family Ranch. Here's their website - https://www.zionwrightfamilyranch.com/, but I booked through Hipcamp. It was a very nice place; cattle freely roaming around you, hearing coyotes calling all night made for a great couple of days.
