I know they are just steelies, but are those a specific model wheel? They look really good.

Got a visit from a coyote or two in the middle of the night while doing a single overnight roadside camping at Mammoth, CA for a half day of snowboarding. Helped one of my best friends and his family move their stuff from OC/LA up to Redding, CA. Made it a plan to ride Mammoth on the way back to SoCal.

I think they are looking for lost pets. They love cats.

While I was setting up the tent, I saw one about 50-60yds into the trees beyond that No Shooting Area sign behind the truck. I had a flashlight on my cap's brim lighting up the direction where I looked and I saw one of those things eyes glowing (reflecting the light) between the trees. Every time I turned away and looked back, it had already moved to another spot, stopping every time I flashed it, moving from behind the truck and over around to the right/passenger side. It was keeping its distance, but I wasn't sure if it was a second one or the same one I already saw on the road on my way to that little turn out spot. The "head on a swivel" saying in my mind kept me alert as I did the setup. (comes in handy if the sleeping quarters are quick and easy. My setup is so-so). I had my machete close by and the G17 loaded in the tent. If they were more desperate, with bigger numbers, they may have got me good.

Haha... anyway. Those coyotes reminded me of this:

Hahahaha... the coyote theme continues for me today... I just saw this article. 2:30pm

Interesting timing for the coyote talk. Our local paper had a great picture of a gray fox sitting on someone’s front porch a few blocks from my house, in broad daylight.

I’ve seen a few coyotes in the ‘hood, though only at night. And then this afternoon I saw a coyote on a mountain bike ride. That in itself isn’t unusual, but now I’m wondering it was a fox also.
Edit: I should give photo credit to Shmuel Thaler, Santa Cruz Sentinel.

Just can’t let it pass by...
What type of mountain bike was the coyote riding?

    LOL
Coyote fever! Fear the Moutain Lion my friend, Calif is second highest place for human / lion attack...
In fact if you want to see coyotes disappear, practice and learn well how to do a Moutain Lion screech.... gone!
I’ve used this trick many times, foolproof.
If anyone knows how to make a Moutain Lion disappear, please let me know! I have been stocked by one... humbling to say the least.

Not me but another lucky person:

BC is #1 spot in the world for a attack.
Considering they are found from Alaska to South America, has more names than any other cat and also has the strongest jaws. Since it likes to bring its prey up into the trees...

The one shot of the videographer shows him with a bike helmet. Yes the fleeing action of biking triggers the response from the Mt Lion as dose crouching over that triggers response to open target zone (back of your neck). Usually you never see nor hear the Mt Lion. It has retractable claws and walks in its own footsteps. Mt Lions have been known for their patience, studying the target for days for the optimal time to strike. Truly apex predator, with risk/reward in mind. But throw all that into the wind when you have a old or hurt or very hungry cat cross your path. I was told by someone in BC to always have a 4” fixed blade at your belt, not bigger you won’t be able to pull it out under attack nor folding blade no time to open it. Being able to sacrifice an arm while protecting your head while reaching with the other and giving the Mt Lion a couple stabs is your best chance of survival. The Mt Lion will reason the risk is not worth the reward with you ;)
