We were in the red tent friends were in the green it was an odd setup with panels inside for the windows and the big screen room. It had a rain fly but with the forecast they opted to leave it off.

Only trick was finding a couple of trees close enough to run some paracord to and making sure they were high enough. Other than that - bungees in the wheel well. Only drawback was when I closed up for the night the tarp fell down and it was a small challenge getting out of the bed in the morning. Once I get the rack on there I will have an anchor point so that won’t happen again.

I give it an 8/10. I’d do it every time there were trees nearby. Even if I have an awning mounted- it’s nice waking up and having a “porch” to sit and have coffee.

Question for you folks. I'm trying to plan a two night trip on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands NP. One night I want to stay at White Crack campground. What are your other favorite spots? Taylor looks interesting, but I'm open to suggestions.

    Thank you in advance.

Towed the casita 400 miles to spend a delightfully rainy weekend up near Cascade Lake in Idaho.

You cant go wrong with any spot on the White Rim in my opinion. I would say getting the backcountry permits you want are going to determine where you stay more than anything. No way I would want to go this time of year though.

I usually avoid going out on big 3-day weekends because it tends to be a clusterfork but I asked for the Monday off not realizing it was Memorial Day weekend. Decided to go anyway but tried to avoid the hotspots.

ade the best of it. Didn't make it to Los Padres NF until well after dark and drove around those forest roads at night trying to find a spot. Lots of campers out there too. Finally found a spot about 200 yards away from the nearest neighbors and set up camp.

Rained like hell around 3AM and made me regret I didn't put up my awning but I wasn't getting up. Not a bad site to wake up to.

Drove around the Forest Service roads for a bit scouting out cool spots for future trips then headed for the lakes. Lake San Antonio was cool but not my scene, same deal with Lake Nacimiento. Stopped for a couple of hours to bask in the sunshine and cook lunch but then it started raining again.

Pulled it great. Definitely spend $300 and get a WD hitch and sway bars. Mileage was around 12 going up and down the mountains. Other than that I was pleasantly surprised how well it towed. The dry weight of this is 2900. I wouldn’t get much more just for safety sake.
