Trying to do last week of March to leave and end of April being back home. Before the summer vacationers get out there.

Hi! I haven't really tested it much to know it's effectiveness or efficiency, ...but it works! It's the Overland Solar Bugout 120 (2nd gen). https://overlandsolar.com/collectio...products/120-watt-nylon-folding-solar-charger

My setup did not beep like the one in the video; possibly, because it had some sun shining on it and the PLB40 I'm using still had sufficient power. The one in the video seemed to have been hooked up while indoors and their PLB40 may be too low on power. Correction: it was at 100%, so it could be due to the lack of sunlight while recording indoors.

I found this company's booth at Overland Expo West 2019 in Flagstaff, AZ last month displaying their solar panel with some PLB40s. I don't know much about electrical stuff, nor solar technology, so their product's compatibility with and plug-&-play ease of use with the PLB40 is what sold me. They also threw in an extension cord for free if bought at the expo (apparently, so one could park the vehicle in the shade while the solar panel can be put further out in the sun). I also got the PLB40 at the expo to get a 20 or 30% discount at the Dometic booth.

I've had the CFX50 since last year, July 2018, and have been wanting to get that PLB40 since I saw reviews of it from SEMA 2018 videos. It's kind of like a dual battery system, but more portable than the traditional onboard dual battery setup; i.e. we can more easily transfer the setup to my wife's vehicle or to a picnic area, etc. Next electrical related mod for the Taco may be changing out the truck's stock battery to a deep cycle type battery.

Pro tip: One solar panel displayed at Overland Solar's booth was being used as a windshield sunshade on a Sprinter/Transit type van via suction cups and carabiner attachments on the outer side of the windshield. I forgot to get those attachment devices for this recent camping trip, but improvised by activating the windshield wipers and cutting off the power when the wiper blades were at the upright position. I managed to squeeze in the solar panel between the windshield and the wiper blades to help keep them in place on the windshield. Even though some portions of the numerous solar panel cells may have been covered by the wiper blades, the solar panel assembly would still work in charging the PLB40. It may not be as strong as when all the cells are fully exposed to the sun, but it will charge nonetheless.

    Hope that helps.

The next day, we made some Spam & egg sliders w/ some King's Hawaiian bread rolls. It was sooo good, man.

If you're really into it, try grilling some Spam. I made some sliders with pepper jack cheese, avocado slices, tomato slices, chipotle mayo, grilled Spam in some grilled King's Hawaiian bread rolls. Dude, my wife and I enjoyed those.

A man after my own heart. Eggs, SPAM and rice is my favorite breakfast. I have to learn to make rice in a pot over an open flame lol.

Maybe practice on the BBQ pit at home first then you could try it in the field. We cook rice like this in the stove all the time.

Then she should be able to show you the best way.
We are in South Louisiana. Rice is a staple. Never waste it. Goes with everything.

Hawai’i same way. We use some fancy ass rice cooker I don’t even no how to use, it’s all in Japanese. Her mom knows how though so I’ll wait for a visit.

Arriving at designated dispersed camp sites on a Friday afternoon is a no go on the front range. Went up today to stake our claim. Hopefully the tents are still there tomorrow haha.

I ended up replacing mine with a 3" air mattress. More support and insulation from the cold. It fits perfect side to side, but it does leave one end. I just use that area for my boots, clothes, heater if it's cold out.

I've got a Goal Zero Yeti 400 I use with my fridge. I run the power cord to my inverter in the bed while I'm driving to charge it, but I'm looking for something I can use to keep the charge up as much as possible while the truck is off. I can get 2-3 days out of it now. But I want to get 4-5 days. Eventually, I want to install a second battery, but that is way down on my todo mod list.

Figured if you get a coat of bed liner on it, might last for a while, maybe put it on a bed rack. Just thinking about it. Working man’s way of getting started.
