More than 50 years of camping experience, and I have to say, I never once came across a situation that made me say, "This is perfect for a RTT". If your RTT experience wanes and you want to try something different, easier. String a real camping hammock, one with a zip-on weather cover (15 degrees warmer microclimate in there in winter), maybe add a 12X12 hammock tarp if heavy dew or rain is forecast, and be done with it. Best night of sleep you will ever have in the wild. Always level. Nothing sticking you underneath. I keep a full hammock setup ready to string at a moments notice. Tarp w guy hardware attached. Underquilt and overquilt. All of it...easily and quickly stored, behind my back seat. Been below 15 and very toasty. Cousin has been below zero and also very toasty. He's backpacking Yosemite right now with his. My own camping craft maturation continues, but not concerning my sleep setup: I arrived about 5 years ago! Here you go: https://www.dreamhammock.com/ Mine is the Sparrow. Check it out. If you decide to order a custom one (almost everyone does) PM me and I'll help you spec it right.

The only drawbacks I see with an RTT is maybe camping in high winds or having to pack up camp to move or use the truck.

For an extended base camp with full comfort I'll take a wall tent with sleep cots and wood stove. We pack thunder sticks so very few bear problems.

Quick question, to get your guys' trucks level for camp, do you use the RV leveling block style? or just find a flat-ish rock and pull up on it? Ive always managed to get it somewhat flat or at least slanted down, but was curious if I should get actual leveling blocks to make it easier / less stress on my tires and truck compared to using a rock haha. Just curious about everyone's opinions.

I use both, rocks or logs if there readily available. I also carry half moon shape blocks that get thicker the more you roll up on them.
