My daughter bailed on me during a backyard camping trip. wanted to test out my new Gazelle tent, so set up a nice backyard set up for us on a Saturday. She lasted one hour before she went back inside. haha. I thought easing her into it would work. Nope.

Got something up that way scheduled for endish of June, hope we can avoid fires this year. Last year we had a 2-weeker planned
and had to abort due to the fires - ended up driving to San Diego as a consolation prize, which wasn't that bad... but still.

If you will be passing thru Lone Pine on your jaunt, may I suggest a stop at Lone Pine Smoke house for some "sweet mother of god this is good" brisket. Not affiliated with them but that is what I found myself saying after eating it. Enjoy your outing!!!!!!!!

Due to eating too much of this stuff, BBQ, Beef, Pork, Full Fat Milk, Butter, Ice Cream, for the past 60 years I have had to drop eating real-meat for the last year.
My body is way way way better and my doctors prediction of not seeing 2022 has come and passed.

However, I'd sell my mother to the Taliban for some good Brisket.

mman, they don't know waht they are missing!!

so, I tried to get my step kids into camping about 7 years ago. They were between 11-17, and had never been outside of a resort for vacation. Before we even left, they were asking about the wi fi signal when we got to the campsite. I knew it was going to suck.

and it did. We have not gone since. There is no way that I am going to force that world on to them. They are just not mentally or physically ready. So now I just go with buds or with my wife. The kids don't like to take vacations in general, so now they just stay at home and do their thing...

I have pretty much resorted to camping solo which is fine. My wife enjoys camping but also likes to have some finer things while camping and I like to be minimalistic!

I don't complain to myself, am happy with the food choices, and have less to clean up after meals. Agree with you though on the they don't know what they are missing. A 2-3 night camping trip for me is like a 6 night stay at a timeshare resort (which I also enjoy). Getting out camping is like a time machine for me. Time flies but also things move slower at the same time!

Our very first camping trip in the taco!
Went to a fun OHV area that we go to often. Explored deeper and found a nice spot.
Previously we camped out of our high roof sprinter van, so first challenge was slimming down and getting everything to fit in the bed.
Got to do some trails and hills there, got some nice paw prints on the headliner.
Setup wasnt terrible, wrap-out was a hung-over greuling pain in the ass, its been years since ive put up and taken down a tent.
Doggos loved it, Lilith hunted beetles all day/night.

I did this as slim as possible to get a gauge on how much i liked taco camping vs sprinter camping. its better.
now im trying to figure how how to get the setup faster and out of my truck so i can take it romping whenever i feel like.

It was nice to be the guy that people follow so they can get pulled out, instead of the guy that follows.

    self setup score: 5.5/10
    self exploration score: 9/10
doggo score: 10/10 and 3 vomits

If I didn't have a bunch of pets to take care of I'd be gone Mon-Friday and home on weekends. This little camper is just
enough for 2 people, and most-excellent for one. At 6 feet wide I can sleep cross-ways and get a lot of room in the front
of it. Tows like a dream and worst case can at 1000 pounds be hand-moved into its final resting spot.

yep...same with my wife. Her rule is "I will not ppoop in the woods". So a teardrop trailer is in the future for us. She is fine with finding mom and pop ownned campsites or parks with showers and toilets.

but yeah, I grew up in the minimalist/backcountry hiking world, so I am also good with just a tent, a jar of peanut butter and a spoon, and a good book.

and yep, even one night of camping in a local State Park is better to me than any "indoor" stay.

so what tent is that on the back of the truck. After years of waffling between wanting to do a decked out truck bed build, to a RTT, to a bed tent, I think the bed tent is what I want the most.

what trailer is that? I am also in the market for a teardrop/small trailer for when the wife comes along
