Hi desert camping and low desert camping. Both involved rough trails to get in. Gotta love the capabilities of the Tacoma.

Wish there was a way to power one of those without some loud-azz generator.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
I am often asked "where is that spot" in relation to some remote fishing lake in BC. If the lake is very remote, I never give the answer as it soon becomes swarmed by other guys and that blows.

Here is a free giveaway. This is a great spot and very little travelled.

Thuya Lakes BC. It is called the Rustic Resort at Thuya Lakes. Northwest of Kamloops BC. There is a rustic set of cabins there. Nothing fancy by any stretch, but a good launching point.

There are 30 lakes, with 26 being hike-in only. I went a few years ago, and hiked alone into 3 lakes over 3 days.

You can fish the 2 lakes right at the resort, but what's the point of that? There are nicer spots than this if that is what you are looking for.

The hiking is pretty rugged and are mostly game trails and not well marked. You need a map and compass and if you have one a mobile GPS device helps.

A few of the lakes have row boats at them, and if you stay at the lodge you will get the keys to unlock the ones for the lakes you visit. For sure you can hike your belly boat in to some, but it is pretty thick hiking trails. I had a 40 pound pack and my fly rod and food and first-aid and such, and it was a real challenge in the heat.

But if you are serious about fishing some remote lakes that get little pressure and have good fish, this is a pristine area.

Here is a pic of one of the lakes and a couple pics so you can see what the trails are like. I encountered one mother black bear with 2 cubs (they bolted) and when leaving at end of my trips I saw a young grizzly, maybe 2 years old. He also bolted. So bring a couple of canisters of bear spray if you plan to hike.

It is a great spot and I'll go again. Mid May to end of June are the best times. Too hot right now for my liking. There are a couple of good lakes you can get to via 4x4 but they are very hard to find. Due to the number of side trails that go nowhere. You can get within a couple hundred yards of a couple of them by 4x4 but then have a steep hike down to the lakes.

I have no association with this lodge or anyone who works there. I found out about it at a Fish N Game show 4 years ago, and then went the next year. So if you want a private spot to yourself to fish, here you go. Little chance you will encounter anyone at these hike-in lakes.

I haven't camped in years, so it was good to be out again. Also to take the truck out somewhere that wasn't desert.
