Trespassers are a valid threat to me when I'm trying to stop people from making drugs on my property, I've talked to local deputies and they told me if I have trespassers on my property I'm allowed to confront them while deputies respond, i will not do that unarmed.

I needed one once. That's enough for me to continue to have one present just in case another idiot tries to make a street name for himself at my expense.

I am wondering if I should look into making a holster that would attach under dash for easy access....

Swimmer: Have you ever heard of car jackings?

Cactuscorn: I thought in Texas you could open carry, even in a car, when the weapon was either in a belt holster or shoulder holster. I thought, outside of that, you had to have it concealed in the car.

Of course. I don't consider it to be a real threat. Don't know of anyone car jacked. Very, very rarely here of a car jacking and, if I am being car jacked at gun point, pulling out my gun (if I had it in my car with me) doesn't seem like a good solution as I'd rather not get in a gun fight with someone who is desperate enough to be pulling a gun on someone and stealing their car. I've got insurance to take care of the car and a wife to go home to.

I carry in the car specifically for the unknown, including carjackings and all the other idiocy that you read about every doggone day. I don't have to experience it to know it happens to others. I'm sure 99% of us having never been jacked at home (break-in, burglary, robbery, drug addict trying to get money for a habit, etc), but you don't have to experience something to be prepared. Otherwise, why does anyone have a gun at home, right?

The cops are not there to protect you (in rare instances, perhaps). They are there to put the toe tag on you or to take your victim's report. Don't be one of those. Be prepared. Don't wait to experience it. Prepare.

So, OP, thanks for this thread. I would love to find a way, in Texas, to quickly get to the weapon when it's not on my belt/shoulder holster but have it STILL be considered concealed.

I keep it on my strong side always in the truck or out on foot. I've never had the need to take it off of my side. I've been carrying for years and I am a Nebraska CHL and a Utah CHL instructor plus I tell my students the same thing.

The new Texas open carry laws have changed how you can carry in your vehicles as well as on your person. Be sure to read them and know your rights/limits. Always prepared, always vigilant. Be safe my friends.

We've been able to carry in our cars in Texas for awhile - your car is essentially an extension of your home as far as Texas law is concerned, don't need a CHL for either (until you get out of your car and/or step off your property). Open carry really doesn't change anything in your car because the law states that to open carry, the firearm must be: 1) in a shoulder holster, or 2) in a holster attached to your belt. So, you can't just toss a gun in your passenger seat. You can conceal carry off-body in your car tho'. (At least that is my understanding - I'm no lawyer, so I suggest doing your own research).

As far as I know thats what the new concealed/open carry doctrine states. Its basically the same as Nebraska's. Only reason I know is because I visit Dallas 3 times a year and want to be legal..

From Open Carry Texas dot org:

"Can I open carry in a vehicle?
Yes. You no longer have to conceal your holstered firearm while in your vehicle provided you have a license. If you do NOT have a license, you WILL need to keep your handgun concealed. Keep in the mind that the handgun must be "on or about" your person. This generally means that you must be able to access the firearm without "materially having to change position" to retrieve it. In layman's terms, "within arm's reach." It still must be in a holster."

That changes things if you Have a CHL.

So far, I like it between the knees mounted tight and high on the column and accessible with my dominant hand but I'm open to more ideas. Thinking something to the right might be blocked by the knee or on the tranny hump may get in the way on long drives and getting to it in the console or in front of the seat slows things way down. With my setup it's in my hands, safety off and pointed out of the window within 1 second. Yes, I've practiced. Ears are open.

Ideally, I'd like to see something that attaches via velcro to the floor carpet right in front of the right side of the driver's seat. It would hold the pistol grip about even with the top of the driver's seat. It would look like something for junk or trash and have a cover for concealment. Kind of like grabbing for the third gen parking brake. Just to the left of it.

I have Wet Okole seat covers, had the holster added to both that they offer. It's a nice size and keeps it right between my legs and easily accessed. Expensive option unless you want covers anyway, but excellent covers/holster solution
