Saturday night my truck died while driving home in traffic. No signs it was coming, engine just died and truck lost all power. After getting pulled over to the side I was able to get my scanner out and read the codes the check engine light caused.

Codes were p0351, p0352, p0353, p0354, p0355 and p0356. No misfire codes or any codes for crank position sensor.

After being towed home (over one hour) the truck fired up with no problems and no check engine lights. Next morning drove it to Toyota dealer where they checked it over and found no problems.

The truck is a 2009 DCLB with just at 100k miles. Never had any issues before this.

Any help would be great. Not sure where to start. Read so many different things and not sure what makes since

    Thanks
    Bv

Id be checking fuses and or the wiring harness that all the coils go into for rodent / wear through the harness. Or a bad harness ground.

Real weird to get all 6 coil packs go tits up at the same time, they all share a common ground, and a common hot from the ignition switch and a common data back to the ecu.

Checked all the fuses they looked good. Didn't see any signs of wear on the wiring harness but I'll check again closer

Maybe check the fuel pump or the float for the gas level. Maybe be showing you have 1/4 tank, but could have significantly less.

    Gas is good...almost full tank

@Heyitssteve0331 let me know if you find anything? By chance was it raining on you? Or was the truck wet?

Sounds like you could poss. have a coil shorting out.
It will throw codes for all cyl. and can shut the vehicle down.

I had this happen to me last night... At a very busy/dangerous intersection... Truck died as I came to a stop. It would turn over, start, and die. Had a good sumaritan pull me to a parking lot(thank goodness). I used my bluetooth diagnostic thingy doodle and got the P0351, 2, 3, etc.curcuits a, b, c, etc. Also acompanying cel and lsd light... When he towed us, it seemed the brakes were applied. Auto in neutral, no parking brake(security thing?). But on second check, it would free roll. After reading inconclusively on TW for 30m or so, it fired up, with the lights still on... I drove around a very large shopping complex for 10m or so. I shut it down, we went in the store for our errand, came back and it fired right up with no lights. I drove home with no problems, but perplexed. Studied for a while last night but all the related threads end inconclusively. Drove it to the store today with no issues. I love my truck, i have 2 of them. But this concerns me. It left me in a very precarious position... Not finding anything concrete in the way of solutions is equally frustrating.
Tacoma Mike, I have seen your suggestions on other threads and am on my way to double check grounds, wire chaffing/critter damage(doubtful), abnormal coils, and such. I had the plugs out 3 weeks, they all looked great(@ 10k miles). Ill check the air box(again), MAF and clean the trottle body. Thank you for your input, sir.

Tomorrow Im taking it to the stealership for a scan...

    OP, what have you found?

I hate that feeling there is a gremlin lounging around, waiting to cause problems...

Sorry to hear about your troubles....hope this helps
Those codes that you relate to show up as a ignition coil codes 1 thru 6

The low voltage side of the system is referred to as the primary circuit. It includes the battery, ignition switch, primary coilwinding, a triggering mechanism (such as a crankshaft sensor) and switching device (such as an ignition module or ECU). The high voltage side of the system is called the secondary circuit
I would assume that because all 6 cylinders came up it might be your ECU....
Good Luck and keep us posted...

Many years ago my '06 lost all power in the HOV lane of the freeway here in Dallas. Scared the crap out of me as I started to coast and cars were crawling up my A#$. After the truck slowed down to about 30 mph the power suddenly returned and I was able to get home. No CEL. I took it to the dealer (still under warranty) and they couldn't find anything wrong. My truck will be 16 next spring and now has about 145k on the odo. This phantom problem never returned.
