My little brother owns a dakota :frusty: yesterday it all of sudden started dieing right after he would turn the key over and the only way to keep it going was by giving it gas. Any ideas of what i should look into to see what might be causing the problem? I really wasn't looking forward to towing it with my taco.

IAC valve maybe, if the Dakota has one?

Mostly stock for now, I have added a cb radio, various cheap mods and I plan on adding aftermarket wheels and other items in the future.
This could be a lot of different things causing this. What year is it and how many miles are on it?

Also- did this maybe strat happening right after a fill-up? Possibly a contaminated fuel filter or blocke line. Is the weather really cold? Maybe the line is frozen if the poor thing is kept outside.
    Bad fuel pump?

Idle air control? Try tapping it with the end handle of a screwdriver. If that fixes it temporarily, then there's your problem.

If you have a multimeter or an ohmmeter try testing the resistance.

Thank you thank you, i just got done looking at some dakota forums :puke: and its looking like it either going to be the IAC or the battery/alternator, i guess you can start the thing with a bad battery but will not keep running if the battery is not fully charged, which i thought was weird because with a bad battery i figured you would just here clicking when turning the key
