Today was the first day since July 28th My Town didn't have any measurable rainfall...

And the humidity was actually pretty decent.

Well back to work today, had a great time off. I worked on trimming out my garage in preparation for a new roof. But today it's back to work, 6 am start time which I don't like, lol. Gotta cover for a guy that's on vacation this week. I also have to drive his truck because it's a 4 axle and will haul more. I hate driving another guys truck! Lol. But hopefully it's a short week this week.
    Be safe out there guys!

    Like, so many.
I thought y’all could appreciate this. I’ve done some volunteer work in West Africa and crossing from Gambia to Senegal requires taking a ferry across a river (they have recently begun construction on a bridge that will truly be life changing) but the ferries are often broken or sometimes a vehicle falls off at the docks and that can snarl traffic for many hours or even days. So the trucks (not like you guys drives) just line up for miles and miles waiting their turn to cross. It can take days. They just sling hammocks under the trailers to stay in the shade and buy what they need from vendors near the docks (which has grown into quite an industry since truckers can be stuck there so long). It’s just part of life in West Africa.

I just saw d.o.t. cop pull over a highway worker that puts up signs and orange cones and barrels, come on, that's b.s.!!! Tell me it's not all about revenue.

Idk how I feel about this… second day driving this truck. It is nice on flat land but we have a big mountain to climb and I prefer choosing my own gear/RPM when climbing that hill.

Just push the gear down button.... and it'll stay in said gear.

Yeah that needs to be done anyway, if not it just keeps searching for gears. It drops down to 1100 before downshifting by then it’s to late and can’t make the next gear. It’s like 8-900 RPM between gears. With 13/18 spds you have better chance of staying in the sweet spot. Idk

I've driven a few automatics, there's a learning curve to them. Of all the autos out there the Allison is the best in my opinion. The autos have gotten better over the years. I liked it going through the mountains. I hauled a fuel tanker with a kenworth 13 speed, it was kinda slow and took forever to go through the gears but it handled the weight good. In the city autos are great! My left leg is bigger than my right from getting stuck in traffic and stomping on the clutch, lol. A lot of guys just won't even try and learn how to drive one, gotta keep an open mind I think.
Gonna be another 12 hour day for me today, haven't worked a day shorter than 11.5 this week. Be glad when everyone is back from vacations. Lol.

This was me today off-road 3 miles round trip small rolling hills 5-10 mph all day, 15 loads. I didn’t like the auto. Don’t get me wrong I’d most likely love it for city driving but I don’t think it’s right for short haul construction work that we do here. I know exactly what I’m going to get out of selected gear on a manual, power and engine braking. With this I don’t.
