There is such a driver shortage that even Walmart is going to start hiring new drivers out of school

Nobody wants to deal with the bs that comes with trucking. They need to get the pay up a lot higher. You can get a job in a warehouse and make close to what we make, and have a normal life.

There is no driver shortage, just an over worked and low pay lack of respect shortage. Most people don't want to work 12 or 14 hour days. Drivers haven't had much of an increase in pay since the deregulation in the 70's. And most trucking companies run you ragged and treat you like a disposable commodity. I work for a company that has trucks, not a trucking company, big difference. I work about 50 hours a week so I have a good work life balance. Back in the day you could make a respectable living driving, today you don't make much more than anybody else in the work force and they are subject to all the laws and d.o.t. hassels. Everything is on the driver! I'm doing OK but a lot of guys aren't.

Thats cute... I remember when I had a part-time job. My usual average is 58 to 63. I'm going to be well over 70 this week because I worked Saturday. ( our weeks are Friday to Thursday.)

On a side note... Today is day two of my logging excapades. I got volunteered to haul a few loads of logs. Our primary business is hauling wood chips but occasionally we get on a tract that has logs so sexy for logging the boss has its do that too... if they're just right the money is better.

Coming back from my last run today, just crawled past a school getting out, parents picking up their kids and kids running around everywhere. Get past that and at the next light there's a young boy with the biggest smile on his face waving at me in the big rig, boys do really like the big trucks. So I gave him a wave back and I think that made his day. Light turns green and I cautiously proceed through the intersection, again school is getting out. I get past the intersection a ways and the next thing I know a white pickup truck swerved around a car and is heading right at me kinda sideways at a very high rate of speed, 2 seconds later I see the cop with lights a blazing chasing this idiot. It's amazing how you can go from pure joy and happiness to pure terror in just a few seconds. Thinking about it after I got my heart rate down I should have road blocked that guy with my rig, he was heading right for the school zone!

I just got my class A license recently. Today is my orientation day for my first trucking job as a local port driver. Just starting out was a little tough cause everyone wants 2 years experience behind the wheel. But I managed to find a company that does 2 months of paid training to start. Looking forward to seeing where this takes me in my new career. Hope all you guys have a safe trip!

    Hello All,
got my class B this summer and have been driving for the local town transit bus company where I go to school. Bus are kinda like trucks, right? We have 35ft, 40ft, and articulated 60ft buses which are all very fun to drive. It really is one of my favorite jobs I've ever had. Here some pics I've taken of these beautiful machines
